Coyotes captain Oliver Ekman-Larsson blogs about the team's recent surge, his friendship with Mikkel Boedker and more

by Oliver Ekman-Larsson @OEL23 / Arizona Coyotes

GLENDALE -- Our team is playing well right now and it's been fun to come to the rink for games and practices. It's not easy to win in this league, and to have a .500 record after starting 1-4-0 means a lot to our group. We're proud of how we're playing and we're all focused on continuing to play this way. We know more wins will come if we do. At the same time, we know we still have 72 games to play so we're tapping the brakes a little bit and not getting too carried away with ourselves.

Beating Tampa Bay the other night was a key moment for us. Everybody knows that team is a team that is always a Stanley Cup contender, so to play like we did against a team like that and win, 7-1, is a big deal for us. We've been building our game every day and a win like that gives us a lot of confidence moving forward. We just have to keep playing like we have. Our goalies have been amazing and have given us a chance to win every game. It's a lot easier to play aggressively on offense when you know the goalie in your net is playing so well.

Coyotes captain Oliver Ekman-Larsson blogs about starting a new season

by Oliver Ekman-Larsson @OEL23 / Arizona Coyotes

GLENDALE -- We're just one day away from beginning a new season in Dallas and I can't wait. Everybody around our team is super excited to get started. It's been a long off-season and we want to start playing meaningful games again. We've done a lot to prepare during this training camp and I think we're ready to go. There's still work to be done as the season goes by, but we're in pretty good shape right now.

Our goal is to get into the Stanley Cup Playoffs. That's why we all play hockey at this level. It would be foolish to enter the season thinking we're just going to play the games on the schedule and that's it. Playing games beyond the schedule we see on the wall is what's motivating us. We added some character guys to our team and I can feel a different vibe in our room. We're all excited to get going.

Coyotes defenseman Oliver Ekman-Larsson blogs about being named the team's captain

by Oliver Ekman-Larsson @OEL23 / Arizona Coyotes

GLENDALE -- I am beyond thrilled to be the new captain of the Arizona Coyotes. It's a big honor and I'm very grateful. I've been with this team for a long time and it's part of who I am and it feels good to know they respect and appreciate me enough to give me this important job.

The Coyotes have had great captains through the years in Shane Doan, Teppo Numminen and Keith Tkachuk. It means a lot to me to join their club and to be a part of such a special group of leaders. They've set the bar very high.

Coyotes defenseman Oliver Ekman-Larsson blogs about the team's winning streak, the All-Star Game and more

by Oliver Ekman-Larsson @OEL23 / Arizona Coyotes

GLENDALE -- A lot has happened since my last blog so let's jump right in!

Our team is playing so much better lately and it makes it fun to come to the rink everyday. We've won four games in a row and have had a nice break since our last game on Saturday. Our chemistry is great right now and we're getting unbelievable goaltending. We know we won't make the playoffs, but we all realize we have to keep playing with heart and pride for the rest of the season. What we do over the next 23 games can help us feel good about ourselves and feel good about the future. I've said it many times, but all of us have to compete knowing that it's a privilege to play in the NHL, and you have to play well, regardless of the team's record, just to stay in this league. I think all of us are doing that now.

Coyotes defenseman Oliver Ekman-Larsson blogs about the team's approach to the second half of the season

by Oliver Ekman-Larsson @OEL23 / Arizona Coyotes

GLENDALE -- Our team is at the halfway point of the season and we've had three days off from games since our last one. With 41 games to go, there's still lots of work for us to do.

It's very important for us to go game-by-game and not look too far ahead. We also can't start thinking that the season is over just because our record isn't great. The key is to treat the second half as a great opportunity for us to get better as a team and to really start building something here. That's our goal for the next three months.

In his latest blog, Arizona Coyotes defenseman Oliver Ekman-Larsson writes about the team's hectic travel schedule, the city of Montreal and friend Stan Wilson

by Oliver Ekman-Larsson @OEL23 / Arizona Coyotes

WINNIPEG -- Today we headed back on the road for four more games here in Canada. We've been on the road a lot this season, but I kind of like it. All of this traveling around is harder for the guys who are married and have kids, but with me being single I like seeing the different cities and arenas and crowds. Hopefully we'll get to see some snow on this trip. If we do, I'm sure I'll appreciate getting back to Arizona after a while.

I think we've been playing better lately and we have to keep doing that and stay positive. We didn't win any of the games on the last trip, but we competed hard against Washington, Pittsburgh and St. Louis, and they are three very good teams. I think we did a lot of good things in those games, but at the same time we've had two or three breakdowns every single game and those are costing us wins. We talk about fixing this a lot, and I think if we can eliminate those breakdowns we should start winning more games.

In his first blog of the 2017-18 season, Coyotes defenseman Oliver Ekman-Larsson writes about having his brother Kevin at training camp

by Oliver Ekman-Larsson @OEL_23 / Arizona Coyotes

GLENDALE - Training camp has started and it's an exciting time for our team. There's a lot of new faces and I think everyone is excited to move forward. It's going to take time and effort to get to know everybody, but it will be a lot of fun at the same time.

One face that is new to almost everybody but me is my younger brother Kevin's. He's here at our camp getting ready to play for Tucson in the AHL season. He can't wait to get going and I'm excited for him. He worked so hard this summer to get into good shape and I'm really proud of him.

Our Team is Coming Together as a Group

Defenseman Oliver Ekman-Larsson blogs about the team's strong play lately

by Oliver Ekman-Larsson @OEL_23 / Arizona Coyotes

GLENDALE - We've got a few days off this week so it's a good time to write a new blog.

Our team has been playing a lot better the past few weeks and I think what it comes down to is working hard. If everybody keeps working hard I think the skills game is going to come, too. We probably should have more points, but we've been around the games more and we're really coming together as a group.

Beating Sharks Twice Has Raised Team's Confidence

Defenseman Oliver Ekman-Larsson blogs about two wins over San Jose and more

by Oliver Ekman-Larsson @OEL_23 / Arizona Coyotes

GLENDALE - We have a couple of home games this week on the night before and the night after Thanksgiving. We're hoping to build off our win over San Jose on Saturday. We've beaten the Sharks two times this season and those wins have helped us build confidence. San Jose is a really great team and they have a lot of great players. Beating them twice is a big step in the right direction for us. At the same time we recognize that we have to play more games like those games, and we know it won't be easy. We haven't played consistent enough to get a lot of points this season and we have to find a way to do that.
