Blues defeat Penguins in Kraft Hockeyville USA game

Score four unanswered goals, spoil preseason debuts for Crosby, Malkin

CRANBERRY, Pa. -- It may be the preseason, but the atmosphere certainly had the intensity of a Stanley Cup Playoff game when the St. Louis Blues defeated the Pittsburgh Penguins 4-1 in the third annual Kraft Hockeyville USA game at UPMC Lemieux Sports Complex on Sunday.

The Penguins, playing in front of 1,500 fans in their practice rink, were the home team after Belle Vernon, Pennsylvania, topped the more than 1,300 entries to win the title. As a result, the Rostraver Ice Garden received $150,000 in renovations and the community had numerous festivities leading up to the game, including a visit from the Stanley Cup.

Kraft Hockeyville USA, now in its third year, awards one winning community a once-in-a-lifetime experience for hockey fans. This year, Belle Vernon, Pennsylvania, and the Rostraver Ice Garden were selected as the winner after an online vote. The rink will receive $150,000 in arena upgrades and there will be festivities, player appearances and even a visit from the Stanley Cup prior to the Pittsburgh Penguins hosting the St. Louis Blues in a nationally televised preseason game at UPMC Lemieux Sports Complex in Cranberry, Pennsylvania, on Sunday (8 p.m. ET, NBCSN). Hockeyville USA winner rolls out red carpet for Penguins

More than 2,000 attend practice at Belle Vernon arena

BELLE VERNON, Pa. -- The Pittsburgh Penguins showed up at Rostraver Ice Garden on Sunday to a red-carpet arrival, and the hundreds of fans waiting outside to greet them let them know their appreciation.

The players signed autographs and took pictures with fans before walking inside to the rink, getting dressed and stepping onto the ice for a practice in front of a crowd of more than 2,000 people. On Sunday, the Penguins will host the St. Louis Blues at UPMC Lemieux Sports complex in Cranberry, Pennsylvania as part of Kraft Hockeyville USA (8 p.m. ET; NBCSN).

CHICAGO -- Communities across the country have shown their local pride and love of hockey, and now 10 of them are one step closer to being awarded the title of Kraft Hockeyville™ USA 2017.

The Kraft Heinz search for America's most passionate hockey community - in partnership with the National Hockey League (NHL®), National Hockey League Players' Association (NHLPA), NBC Sports Group and USA Hockey - led to almost 1,300 local rink nominations across the United States, accounting for nearly 73 percent of rinks nationwide, according to USA Hockey data. With the nominations now narrowed down to 10 finalists, the first round of public voting will begin April 11 at www.krafthockeyville.com.

Buffalo wins 'fun game to be a part of' in Marquette, Michigan

MARQUETTE, Mich. - When the buzzer sounded Tuesday, the winners according to the scoreboard were the Buffalo Sabres, who defeated the Carolina Hurricanes 2-0, but the real winners were the people of Marquette.

The capacity crowd of 3,100-plus at Lakeview Arena gave the teams a standing ovation at the preseason game's conclusion, a fitting end to the events of the past few days for the city that was named Kraft Hockeyville USA 2016 in April.
