Situation Room: Cehlarik's goal stands after review

The Sharks challenge that there was goaltender interference on Peter Cehlarik's goal, but the call on the ice stands and the Bruins tie it up

  • 02:52 •

At 6:17 of the first period in the Bruins/Sharks game, San Jose requested a Coach's Challenge to review whether a Boston player interfered with San Jose goaltender Aaron Dell prior to Peter Cehlarik's goal.

After reviewing all available replays and consulting with NHL Hockey Operations staff, the Referee determined that the actions of San Jose's Joakim Ryan caused Boston's Jake DeBrusk to contact Dell before the puck crossed the goal line. The decision was made in accordance with Note 2 of Rule 78.7 (ii) which states, in part, that the goal should be allowed because "the attacking Player was pushed, shoved or fouled by a defending Player causing the attacking Player to come into contact with the goalkeeper."

Therefore the original call stands - good goal Boston Bruins.

Since the Coach's Challenge did not result in the original call being overturned, the San Jose Sharks forfeit their time-out.
