Hull, Pronger, Edmonds, Robinson join pick-up game

If you weren't able to secure tickets to the 2017 Bridgestone NHL Winter Classic or the Winter Classic Alumni Game - or you just know you can't get enough of seeing hockey outdoors - there's another opportunity to see a one-of-a-kind hockey game at Busch Stadium.

Former Blues Brett Hull, Chris Pronger, Peter Stastny, Kelly Chase, Cam Janssen, along with former St. Louis Cardinal players Jim Edmonds and Kerry Robinson, are among a group of players participating in St. Louis' Greatest Pick-Up Hockey Game, which will be played at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 8 at Busch Stadium during the One Nation Classic closing ceremonies.

Projected Lineup: Jan. 2 vs. Chicago

ST. LOUIS - The St. Louis Blues held a team practice on New Year's Day at Busch Stadium to prepare for their meeting with the Chicago Blackhawks in Monday's 2017 Bridgestone NHL Winter Classic, which is scheduled for a noon puck drop.

Forwards Jaden Schwartz and Nail Yakupov missed practice due to being sick, so it's unknown whether they'll be able to play.

Winter Classic still set for noon at Busch Stadium

ST. LOUIS - The National Hockey League announced today that the start time of the 2017 Bridgestone NHL Winter Classic® at Busch Stadium between the St. Louis Blues and Chicago Blackhawks will remain at Noon CT.

The decision was made after consulting with meteorologists regarding the latest weather reports, which while the weather forecast is unpredictable, the original start time should provide the best opportunity to play the game.

Fabbri wants fans to own piece of the Classic

ST. LOUIS - If Robby Fabbri's skates for the 2017 Bridgestone NHL Winter Classic look a little more colorful, it's not your eyes playing tricks on you.

Fabbri will be wearing royal blue skateblade holders - or tuuks - for Monday's noon game, which will be the first-ever appearance in an outdoor game for the St. Louis Blues.

ST. LOUIS - For every goal the Blues score in the Winter Classic Alumni Game, former Blues defenseman Chris Pronger and his wife, Lauren, will donate $200 for to help 7-year-old Luca in his battle with leukemia.

Luca was diagnosed with the disease on Dec. 12 and has been undergoing treatment at St. Louis Children's Hospital.

Winter Classic could make $18.5 million for region

LOUIS - The 2017 Bridgestone NHL Winter Classic® between the hometown St. Louis Blues and the Chicago Blackhawks serves as the centerpiece of the Blues' season‑long celebration marking 50 years in the National Hockey League. And while St. Louisans are eagerly anticipating the historic match between the rival teams on Monday, Jan. 2, their effort to bring the outdoor game to Busch Stadium marks a guaranteed victory for the regional economy.

The St. Louis Regional Chamber's Director of Economic Research, Ruth Sergenian, calculates the economic impact of the 2017 Bridgestone NHL Winter Classic® could generate $18.5 million for the region. This estimate is based on the assumption that the 2017 Bridgestone NHL Winter Classic® and the 2017 Bridgestone NHL Winter Classic® Alumni Game on Saturday, Dec. 31, will both draw 45,000 attendees to Busch Stadium in downtown St. Louis.
