On Tuesday night at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, the Wings defeated the Islanders, 6-3, with Daley again getting the winning goal.
Mike Green had an insurance marker to make it 5-3 at 14:12 of the third.
Petr Mrazek made 34 saves to win his first game since shutting out the Edmonton Oilers, 4-0, on Nov. 5.
The Wings improved to 13-13-7 overall and 7-7-1 on the road while the Islanders fell to 18-13-3 overall and 10-3-2 at home.
It was the Islanders' first loss of the season when scoring the game's first goal (11-1-0).
1. Henrik Zetterberg: Although the Wings captain has not been as dominant a force for his team as he was a season ago when he was the best player on a nightly basis, Zetterberg is still a force. Zetterberg assisted on three goals against the Islanders, extending his point streak to four games. He has one goal and six assists in that span. That gives Zetterberg 23 points this season, tied for second with Anthony Mantha. Dylan Larkin, who also had three assists, leads the team with 27. Zetterberg had more ice time than any other forward at 23:21 and was second only to Jonathan Ericsson's 23:50.
Quotable: "That helps, obviously, but talking about bounces and a little puck luck, I have that on my side right now. Those three days (off) helps get a little refreshed. It was fun to play some minutes tonight." - Zetterberg
Quotable II: "He's been playing great. He's our leader. He does it right. He played a great game. We're lucky. Times are tough and our leader stepped up the past four games. As a young guy like Moe (Mantha) and Double-A (Andreas Athanasiou) see that, everyone on the bench sees it. It goes a long way for us young guys." - Larkin
Quotable III: "I think historically, Zetterberg always been better in the second half of the year. I think part of that reason is the games get tighter and harder and he outcompetes people. That's just the reality of it. His competitiveness is so high, that as the games get tighter, as the games get hard, as they call less penalties, as there's more hooking and holding, as all that stuff happens as the year goes on, he always gets better. He has since the day I was an assistant here, and I think he continues to. His competitive level is great. I thought him and Nyquist were our best two forwards in the first two periods. We're gonna need him to get hot." - Wings coach Jeff Blashill
2. Martin Frk: After missing eight games with a groin injury, Frk has been trying to get back to his scoring ways. He had two assists in the six games since his return. But Ericsson found Frk at the right side of the net at 9:33 of the first period and Frk quickly redirected the puck past goaltender Thomas Greiss. It was Frk's first goal in eight games, with his last one coming Nov. 9 at Calgary. Larkin had the second assist.
Quotable: "He had the tough injury, too. He's a guy who doesn't complain about his role. He goes out and does it. It was a big goal for him." - Larkin
3. Anthony Mantha: Mantha has not been pleased with himself of late, particularly after not recording a single shot in goal against Toronto Friday night. Mantha also had not scored a goal since Nov. 30 at home against his hometown Montreal Canadiens, a span of six games without one. But at 15:15 of the second period during a weird scramble around the Islanders net, Mantha scored from behind the net on a rebound. The puck went in off the arm of Greiss, who was face-down in the net after the initial save. That goal tied the game at 3. It was Mantha's team-leading 13th goal. He finished with one goal on one shot and was plus-2.
Quotable: "I thought he was good. He was out there on the ice late in the game because I thought he was playing good, so I had him out there on the ice late in the game. I was just happy overall with his play. Especially in the third period I thought he was really going." - Blashill
Quotable II: "After the second period, 3-3 going into the third, been lucky for us. I don't think we played that great. Petr made some big saves. We took a step backwards, but we were in the game and just wanted to go out and play a good 20 minutes and that's what we did and got two points." - Zetterberg
