The first period, in which Detroit and Nashville both finished 0-for-2 on the power play, was scoreless. Just past the halfway mark of the second stanza, the Predators took a 1-0 lead. Nashville was on the attack from the start of the third, scoring what would stand as the game-winning goal at 2:22.
After Red Wings goalie Ville Husso was pulled late in the final frame, Alex Chiasson ended Predators netminder Juuse Saros' shutout bid with 2:16 remaining by scoring a 6-on-4 power play goal.
Detroit finished Tuesday's game with a 29-16 shot advantage over Nashville.
"He (Saros) played good, but I don't think we made it really hard on him," Andrew Copp said. "We had some good chances, but he's a good goalie. You gotta make him work. It felt like he was in a rhythm all night. We really didn't get in front of him enough."
Husso turned aside 14 shots he faced for the Red Wings (30-28-9; 69 points), while the Predators prevailed to improve to 34-24-7 (75 points) overall.
"Underlying numbers, you're gonna grade this out, this will be a good team performance," Detroit head coach Derek Lalonde said. "A good team defensive performance. That's four (games) in a row now. Just wanna get consistent and hopefully outcomes come."
