NASHVILLE --The Detroit Red Wings saw a comeback attempt fall just short in a 2-1 loss to the Nashville Predators on Tuesday night at Bridgestone Arena.

The first period, in which Detroit and Nashville both finished 0-for-2 on the power play, was scoreless. Just past the halfway mark of the second stanza, the Predators took a 1-0 lead. Nashville was on the attack from the start of the third, scoring what would stand as the game-winning goal at 2:22.
After Red Wings goalie Ville Husso was pulled late in the final frame, Alex Chiasson ended Predators netminder Juuse Saros' shutout bid with 2:16 remaining by scoring a 6-on-4 power play goal.
Detroit finished Tuesday's game with a 29-16 shot advantage over Nashville.
"He (Saros) played good, but I don't think we made it really hard on him," Andrew Copp said. "We had some good chances, but he's a good goalie. You gotta make him work. It felt like he was in a rhythm all night. We really didn't get in front of him enough."
Husso turned aside 14 shots he faced for the Red Wings (30-28-9; 69 points), while the Predators prevailed to improve to 34-24-7 (75 points) overall.
"Underlying numbers, you're gonna grade this out, this will be a good team performance," Detroit head coach Derek Lalonde said. "A good team defensive performance. That's four (games) in a row now. Just wanna get consistent and hopefully outcomes come."
NEXT UP:Detroit will welcome the defending Stanley Cup champion Colorado Avalanche to Little Caesars Arena on Saturday afternoon. Fans are encouraged to arrive early for Saturday's matinee, as the first 10,000 fans in attendance will receive a Henrik Zetterberg bobblehead, presented by Coca-Cola.

DET@NSH: Chiasson gets Red Wings on board with PPG

      QUOTABLE
      Lalonde on Saros' performance
"Huge part of it. You gotta tip your hat to their goalie. I'll have to watch back to see if we could have done more around him as far as taking his space and his eyes, maybe some things different offensively. It just felt like we got a world-class goalie performance against us. The critique is the fact we spent 10 minutes in the box."
Copp on the challenges the Predators gave the Red Wings on Tuesday
"They kind of got some shifty skill guys too, but they played the right way. They played on top of us. I thought we were the better team for most of the game, but a couple breakdowns. Margin of error is pretty small this time of year."
Chiasson on the intensity of games down the stretch of the season
"I feel like since I've been here, a lot of the teams we have played, everyone is kind of in the same boat. The games are fast and there's a lot of emotions out there. You gotta battle for your space. These are meaningful games for our group, for sure."
