Maple Leafs, Matthews frustrated after Game 7 loss to Bruins

Toronto center held to two points in first-round series

by Mike Zeisberger @zeisberger / NHL.com Staff Writer

BOSTON -- The bill of Auston Matthews' cap was pulled so low you could hardly see that his eyes were glazing over. The Toronto Maple Leafs center doesn't like to show his emotions at the best of times. And this certainly wasn't one of them.

Still, he couldn't hide his disappointment. A season of hope, a promise of taking that next step.

After wild start, resiliency sends Boston into second round of playoffs

by Amalie Benjamin @AmalieBenjamin / NHL.com Staff Writer

BOSTON -- They sang Wednesday, full-throated, relief and happiness and exuberance pouring out of them with every word.

Long after the music stopped, the puck had gone back into play, the crowd at TD Garden found release, where minutes earlier they had found only nerves, only worry, only concern that this would be the end of the season.

No longer. Now they believed. Now they sang, a full extra verse of Bon Jovi's "Livin' On A Prayer" as play continued on the ice. Now they knew.

Maple Leafs say pressure's on Bruins in Game 7

Toronto relishing 'best-of-1' against Boston, chance to win first playoff series since 2004

by Dave McCarthy / NHL.com Correspondent

TORONTO -- The pressure of Game 7 can be crippling, but the way Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman Jake Gardiner sees it, the Boston Bruins are the ones facing all the pressure now.

"Just have fun with it; the pressure is kind of off us," Gardiner said before the Maple Leafs flew to Boston on Tuesday, where Game 7 of the Eastern Conference First Round will be played at TD Garden on Wednesday (7:30 p.m.ET; NBCSN, CBC, TVAS, SN, NESN). "We're going to go into that building, it's going to be rocking and we're going to be ready to go. When we were down 3-1, I don't think anyone expected us to come back, and now that we're here, it's a good opportunity."
