Detroit's lone goal came less than five minutes into the game when David Perron opened the scoring with his 16th tally of the season. Philadelphia tied the contest with a shorthanded goal at 6:53 of the second period before jumping ahead, 2-1, later in the same frame. The Flyers put the game out of reach with an empty netter at 18:12 of the third.
"With a full roster, pre-injury and deadline, we talked about how exact we had to be to be successful," Red Wings head coach Derek Lalonde said. "Now it's even double-fold. We have to manage our game."
Ville Husso's play against Philadelphia was one of the bright spots for Detroit; he stopped 34 of 36 shots, including all 14 he faced in the opening period. The 28-year-old goalie was not available on Saturday against the Isles due to a lower-body injury.
"It was a frustrating loss, for sure," Husso said. "I think we were in a good spot going into the second period. Really good hockey from us in the first 10 minutes of the second, then we gave it away for them."
The Red Wings, who are winless in their past six games, fell to 28-26-9 (65 points) overall and 13-14-5 on the road while the Flyers improved to 24-28-11 (59 points) on the season.
"We definitely want to be in a different situation than we are right now," Moritz Seider said. "We're losing track on our big goal of making the playoffs. It's just up to us."
