DAL@DET: Fabbri scores all 3 goals for the Red Wings

DETROIT -- When you're a team that doesn't produce high-volume offense, you need to take advantage of every scoring chance you get, and the Detroit Red Wings did just that Thursday night, scoring two goals on their first two chances en route to a 3-2 win over the Dallas Stars at Little Caesars Arena.

Center Robby Fabbri earned a hat trick for Detroit and goalie Jonathan Bernier made 22 saves to help the Red Wings earn their third win in the last four games and improve to 10-17-4 overall.
The Stars' loss was their fourth defeat in the last five games as they fell to 9-10-7 on the season.

But the Red Wings' victory was dampened by an injury to Bernier who had to leave the game with 1:28 to go in the second period.
After a mad scramble behind the net, the Red Wings' goalie was inadvertently trampled by Dallas forward Denis Gurianov and Detroit defenseman Patrik Nemeth, forcing Bernier to miss the remainder of the game with a lower-body injury.
After the game, Red Wings coach Jeff Blashill said he didn't have an update on Bernier's injury, noting that the goalie will be further evaluated on Friday.
The game was a nail-biter for the Red Wings in the early going as they were outshot, 10-2, midway through the first period, but Detroit fought through adversity and managed to draw first blood.
In a four-on-four situation, Anthony Mantha gained the zone and dropped the puck to Fabbri who fired a knuckling wrist shot that beat Stars rookie goalie Jake Oettinger to give the Wings a 1-0 lead at 14:00 of the first.

The center netted his second of the game 6:36 into the second period when he took a pass from Marc Staal and found himself wide open at the blue line. Fabbri fired a seemingly harmless shot on Oettinger, but the Stars' goalie was off balance and the puck found the back of the net to extend Detroit's lead to 2-0.

Thomas Greiss replaced Bernier in net when the Wings' starter got hurt toward the end of the second, marking his first appearance since March 9 and only his second game since March 2.
Fabbri also went down just over a minute into the third period when Mantha tried to clear the puck but inadvertently hit Fabbri in the throat. Fabbri hit the ice hard, went back to the Red Wings' dressing room for evaluation, but returned shortly after.
Fabbri didn't miss a beat after taking a puck to the neck, as he secured his hat trick a few minutes later after being the recipient of an impressive play from captain Dylan Larkin. Larkin beat a Dallas defender to capture a loose puck just past center ice and gained the zone to go one-on-one with Oettinger.
Oettinger made the initial save on Larkin, but the captain got his own rebound, delivered a perfect pass to Fabbri on the doorstep, who easily scored on the open net.
"You grow up dreaming of stuff like that, and it always makes you feel better when it comes in a big win against a great team," Fabbri said about his second career hat trick. "We're just putting our heads down and coming every day to work to get better. With that mindset, it's showing throughout our games and throughout the lineup."

Just 25 seconds after Fabbri's third goal, Dallas forward Roope Hintz spoiled Detroit's shutout as he tipped a shot from Gurianov that beat Greiss to make it a 3-1 game with 10:30 remaining in the game.
The Stars made it a one-goal game with 1:20 to go when Jason Dickinson deflected a point shot from Jason Robertson for a six-on-five goal that brought the game to 3-2.
But the Wings stood tall in the final 80 seconds of the game, handling a barrage of shots from the Stars to secure the win.
Blashill said he was happy with the way his team responded to Bernier's injury and helped Greiss get comfortable.
"Our guys like Greiss a lot. He works hard, he's a great pro, he's a great person and I think it's a tough situation to go into," the Wings' coach said. "So I think our guys wanted to get him through that game. Ultimately, I think he ended up recording the win. He's a guy that, again, our guys like a lot and I think he came in a did a great job."
The Red Wings' win snapped a three-game losing streak to the Stars and gave Detroit seven points in its last five games.
Fabbri said the Wings are gaining confidence with every victory and said the team chemistry is brewing into something that could be special.
"It's going really well right now. Everyone's having fun. When you're winning, it's fun," Fabbri said. "That brings a lot of confidence in everyone's game and when you're feeding off guys, each and every line has a good shift and you want to follow it up. It's really nice that everything's been coming together. There's still a long road to go here but we're definitely on the right track."
The Red Wings will look for their third consecutive win on Saturday night as they wrap up their six-game homestand. Puck drop for the series finale against the Stars is set for 7:00 p.m. on FOX Sports Detroit and 97.1 The Ticket.
