DETROIT -- The Detroit Red Wings were shut out for the first time this season in a 1-0 loss to the Carolina Hurricanes on Tuesday night at Little Caesars Arena.

Carolina grabbed what proved to be the deciding lead on a power play late in the first period. Detroit kept up the pressure, outshooting the Hurricanes, 13-6, in the second, but went 0-for-3 with the man-advantage in the same frame.
"We didn't play bad tonight," Andrew Copp said. "But it's a frustrating game to play when you kind of let them play into it."
Making his 20th career start with the Red Wings goalie Ville Husso stopped 26-of-27 shots he faced in the loss, which dropped Detroit to 13-9-6 on the season. The Canes extended their point streak to eight straight games, improving to 16-6-6 (38 points) overall.
Captain Dylan Larkin (undisclosed) did not return to Tuesday's game after the second period. Speaking to the media after the game, head coach Derek Lalonde said the 26-year-old forward will not be available for Wednesday's matchup against the Minnesota Wild.
"We'll get someone up," Lalonde said. "We have to. We don't have enough available bodies here."
The Red Wings held a pregame ceremony to honor David Perron for playing in his 1,000th career NHL game. The veteran left wing reached the milestone against the Dallas Stars on Saturday afternoon at American Airlines Center.
NEXT UP: Detroit will conclude its midweek back-to-back on Wednesday night against the Wild at Xcel Energy Center.

SCORING SUMMARY

Carolina 1, Detroit 0 (17:20, 1st period)
With the Hurricanes on their first power play of the game, Brady Skjei scored off a spin-around backhanded pass from Seth Jarvis for the lone goal of the night.

QUOTABLE

Lalonde on his takeaways from Tuesday's game
"They won the special teams game. Dissapointed in our first, didn't really give ourself much of a chance. Much better second, a little push. Just didn't go in for us. They scored on the power play, we didn't."
Lalonde on Husso's performance
"Really good. Not a ton of volume. A couple big saves early."
Perron on looking ahead to Wednesday's game
"Just turn the page right away. We've done a good job so far this year in those second games in two nights. That's really what it is. We're gonna get to Minnesota and be ready for tomorrow."
