DETROIT -- In an unusual season traversed through a highway of unfamiliar territory, the Detroit Red Wings are preparing for another twist in the road as they get set to face the Dallas Stars in a four-game, home-and-home regular season series.

The unprecedented four-game series begins with a back-to-back set on Monday and Tuesday from Dallas' American Airlines Center before moving to Little Caesars Arena to wrap up the clubs' season series Thursday and Saturday.
Before suffering a 4-0 shutout to the Chicago Blackhawks on Saturday night, the Red Wings were riding a season-long three-game winning streak, and now Detroit (16-24-6, 38 points) attempts to play spoiler against Dallas (17-14-12, 46 points) as the Stars fight for a playoff spot in the Central division.
The Stars are three points back of the fourth-seed Nashville Predators in the division race and come into the series against the Wings with points in nine of their last 11 games, including a season-long six-game point streak (4-0-2).
Detroit has dropped three of its first four games against Dallas this season, including a 3-0 shutout loss to the Stars in the last meeting on March 20, but with 10 games remaining in the 2020-21 season, the Red Wings are one win and one point shy of matching their 2019-20 season totals.
Red Wings coach Jeff Blashill said his club has a lot to play for in the last three weeks of the season and expects the atmosphere to be as competitive as ever.
"I think for all our guys, it's big," Blashill said about the last 10 games of the campaign. "Certainly for young guys, you can really make a statement to where you think you should fit in within the organization. But everybody's got stuff on the line. The guys that have contracts up, they're playing for their livelihoods, and as a team, we want to grow as a group. There's a whole bunch of stuff on the line for a lot of our guys, and the games should be extremely competitive."
Puck drop for the four-game series opener is set for 7:30 p.m. ET on Monday night. Fans can catch the nationally televised broadcast on NBCSN or catch the radio broadcast on the Red Wings Radio Network.

Red Wings Storylines

• Center Joe Veleno was assigned to the Red Wings' taxi squad on Saturday after returning to North America following his loan from the Swedish Hockey League to begin the 2020-21 campaign. The Wings' 30th overall pick in 2018 ranked third on his Malmo Redhawks club with 11 goals among 20 points in his second professional season. Veleno isn't expected to play in the first two games of the series, but the 21-year-old traveled with the Wings to Dallas and will look to make his NHL debut at some point this season.
• Defenseman Troy Stecher has made his presence felt since April 8, earning four points in a four-game span, including his first career two-goal game in a 4-1 win over the Blackhawks on April 15. Stecher's 11 points is second among Red Wings defensemen this season and would be on pace for a career-high in a full 82-game season.

• After struggling to earn results despite solid play in the first three months of the season, goaltender Thomas Greiss has finally seen some success in the win column. The 35-year-old has won three of his last four games, with the only loss coming in a shootout against the Nashville Predators on April 6.

Scouting the Stars

• Winger Roope Hintz has been on a tear lately, earning 11 points in his last five games, including a four-point performance against the Blackhawks on April 8. Hintz has only played 31 of the Stars' 43 games this season, but his 35 points ranks second on the club and is already a career-high for the 24-year-old Finland native.
• Defenseman John Klingberg leads Stars blueliners with 30 points this season and his 23 assists is tied for the team lead. The 28-year-old has earned four points in four games against the Red Wings this season and his 14 points in 14 career games against Detroit is tied for his best per-game point total against any NHL opponent.
• 22-year-old goaltender Jake Oettinger has continued his impressive rookie campaign platooning with Anton Khudobin in the Stars' net. Oettinger swept a two-game series against the Columbus Blue Jackets on April 15 and 17, and he's 8-5-6 this season with a 2.16 goals-against average and a .919 save percentage. Before the Columbus series, Khubdobin started four straight games, and the 12-year veteran hasn't lost a start in regulation since March 23
