DETROIT --The Detroit Red Wings battled for just over 64 minutes to rally from an early 2-0 deficit and force overtime, but Detroit came up just short in a 3-2 loss to the Chicago Blackhawks at Little Caesars Arena on Monday night.

Vladislav Namestnikov scored with 15 seconds left in the first to help begin the rally for Detroit and Christian Djoos earned his first goal of the season to tie the game early in the third period.

Dominik Kubalik had two goals, including the game winner for the Blackhawks, who got a strong start in net from Malcolm Subban, who made 27 saves for the win.
Red Wings coach Jeff Blashill has seen his team continue to put forth a good effort over the past five games, but with three one-goal losses in that stretch, he knows more needs to be done.
"We've got to get the second point. We've got to find ways to get these games," Blashill said. "I think we've done a good job of playing pretty good hockey and putting ourselves in a position to win, but we've got to find ways to win these hockey games.
"Whether it be on specialty teams, whether it be not making a big mistake, I think we're moving in the right direction, I think we understand what we need to do to be successful, and we've got to find ways to win these games."
The Blackhawks built their 2-0 lead thanks to an opening goal from Mattias Janmark at 4:19 of the first off a great feed from Carl Soderberg. Eleven minutes later, after a turnover in the neutral zone, Kubalik cashed in as he drove to the net and beat Red Wings goalie Thomas Greiss from in front.
Detroit was able to shake that off and got on the board late in the first as the puck pinballed around the front of the net and found the stick of Namestnikov, who buried it for his fourth goal of the season.

After a scoreless second period, the Wings tied the game after Djoos corralled the puck in the high slot, made a great deke and rifled a shot past Subban 5:49 into the third period.
In overtime, both teams traded chances, including Pius Suter hitting the post and Filip Zadina just missing a give-and-go during a 3-on-1. But in the end, Kubalik finished off the game with 17 seconds left and the Red Wings' comeback was denied.
Captain Dylan Larkin was happy with the level of play early and as the team rallied from a two-goal deficit, but lamented not earning the victory.
"I liked how we hung in there. We had a good start, we hung in, we battled," Larkin said. "Our PK did a great job, Greisser was great again, made big saves early, just battled. We battled and got the point, and we've got to find a way to get the next point there."

The Red Wings' power-play struggles continued, finishing 0-for-2 for the game.
"Certainly, that's been a continued sore spot," Blashill said about the power play. "We have nights where it looks not bad, and then we go backwards again. There's lot of different guys in different situations, we give a lot of different people opportunities and not enough people have grabbed it."
The Red Wings did keep the Blackhawks' second-ranked power play in check, keeping them off the board in three chances. They also outshot their opponent again as the defensive structure the coaching staff has been preaching this season continues to take hold.
The Red Wings and Blackhawks will wrap up their two-game series on Wednesday night at 7:30 p.m. (NBCSN, 97.1 The Ticket) from Little Caesars Arena.
