By the Numbers will highlight the on-ice accomplishments in the 2019-20 season for the Detroit Red Wings' prospects. Twice a week during the offseason, By the Numbers will profile a different player in the system, focusing on his statistical highs. This week we focus on defenseman Malte Setkov.

Moving up levels in hockey is always an adjustment but there's an additional adjustment to be made when you are 6-foot-7.

Defenseman Malte Setkov, who was born in Rødovre, Denmark, grew quickly as a teenager, reaching that height before the Red Wings drafted him in the fourth round, 100th overall, in the 2017 NHL Entry Draft.

Of course, now the Wings have 6-foot-7 Elmer Söderblom, a forward they drafted in the sixth round last year, who also stands out in a crowd.

Hockey players generally gain strength as they get older and spend more time in the gym.

That's a little more challenging when you have a huge frame to fill out as Setkov does.

Setkov is listed at 205 pounds, which doesn't sound like a lot for someone so tall but is 13 pounds more than he weighed just two years ago at development camp.

By contrast, Söderblom weighed 220 pounds at age 18.

Despite being Danish, Setkov has spent the majority of his career playing in Sweden, often commuting more than an hour each way every day.

After splitting last season between the Swedish Hockey League and Allsvenskan, Setkov is expected to play mostly for the Swedish Hockey League's Malmö Redhawks this coming season, as long as the COVID-19 pandemic permits.

29 - Setkov played 29 games for the Malmö Redhawks in the Swedish Hockey League, the top league in Sweden.

1 - In those 29 games, Setkov had one goal, which is one more than he had during the 2018-19 season in 13 games.

2- Setkov also had two assists while playing for the Redhawks after not recording any in the previous season.

25 - He played almost as many games -- 25 -- for Kristianstads IK in Allsvenskan, Sweden's second highest league.

5 - In those 25 games, Setkov scored five goals. He did not score a goal in the previous season when he played in 16 games for IK Pantern in Allsvenskan.

10 - Setkov also chipped in five assists for Kristianstads IK, giving him 10 points, the most he's had in an Allsvenskan season.

18 - Setkov also had a career Allsvenskan high in penalty minutes with 18. The last time he had that many was during the 2016-17 season while playing 38 games for the Malmö Redhawks in SuperElit.

21 - On Jan. 14, Setkov turned 21.

Quotable: "Good, he actually started the year up in the men's league in the SHL, was lent out to the Allsvenskan. Didn't get off to the start that he wanted to but lent him out. To his credit, he went down there and he worked actually really hard. Andreas Lilja, who used to be a player here in the Detroit Red Wings organization, is an assistant coach where he was at and really responded well to him. Then towards the end he got called back up. I think since about mid-February, he got called up and played well. His minutes were going up every single game. I think the first few he played under 10 but then the last eight or nine, they were all 12 minutes and above and I think almost 15 minutes in a couple games. Starting to gain more confidence in his game up there. The coaching staff always liked him there and I think for him, he's just another guy that is a late bloomer in terms of physically. He was always very tall and if you don't have the strength in your legs and core to be able to control the length of your body out there, it makes it tough on the ice. He's starting to put the work in. It's another big summer for him and it's a big year for him next year." -- Shawn Horcoff, director of player development and assistant director of player personnel
