DETROIT -- Although the weather has Detroit looking a lot like Christmas, it feels more like Groundhog Day for the Red Wings.
Despite a solid effort against the hot Boston Bruins, the Wings fell in overtime, 3-2, on Brad Marchand's 12th goal of the season.

Marchand also set up David Pastrnak for the game-tying goal with 1:26 left in the third with the goaltender pulled for the extra attacker.
The Wings fell to 11-13-7 overall and 5-6-6 at home while the Bruins improved to 15-9-4 overall and 6-5-2 on the road.
1. Overtime woes: As good as the Wings have been in shootouts, they have been equally bad in the 3-on-3 overtime. After Wednesday's loss, they are 0-6 in overtime. Gustav Nyquist fell down, giving Marchand the opportunity to score the game-winner. This past Monday against Florida, it was defenseman Mike Matheson crashing the net for a rebound that won it for the Panthers. The Wings have lost five of their last 11 games in overtime.
Quotable: "We certainly have looked into it to a great amount; 0-6, if you just go 3-3 it's a different story. We've looked into usage, we've looked into systemically, we've looked into all those things. Most part, systems are, I don't want to say thrown out the window in 3-on-3, but they don't become nearly as important. The last guys that are on the ice, in this case we had a guy fall in the corner and then we don't quite make a play. I think the biggest thing in those 3-on-3 situations is you got to make offensive and defensive plays and we haven't made enough of those." - Wings coach Jeff Blashill
Quotable II: "When we go into overtime, we believe we can win that game and get that second point, but it keeps getting harder when we don't get it." - Henrik Zetterberg
2. Tomas Tatar: Tatar did not need much time when Patrice Bergeron headed to the box for tripping at 9:02 of the second period. As Justin Abdelkader screened goaltender Tuukka Rask, Tatar shot from the left circle and scored 13 seconds into the power play. It was Tatar's ninth of the season. He is second on the Wings in goals to only Anthony Mantha, who has 12. Tatar now has eight goals among 14 points in 17 career games against the Bruins.
Quotable: "Now it will show who is mentally tough, It can break you down. Obviously, it's hard watching from the bench. We've played way too many games this season where we played good and came up short. Maybe that's showing us something. We have to be better somewhere." - Tatar
3. Dylan Larkin: Not only has Larkin gained Blashill's trust at center, he's also gained his trust as a reliable penalty killer. With his elite speed, Larkin also adds the element of adding offensive while shorthanded and that's exactly what happened when Mike Green was in the box for holding midway through the third period. Darren Helm found Larkin skating toward the Bruins' end and Larkin made a move and managed to deke Tuukka Rask, beating him with the backhand at 11:34 for a 2-1 lead. Larkin leads the Wings with two shorthanded goals. Helm, Luke Glendening and Frans Nielsen have one shorthanded goal apiece.
Quotable: "We got to find ways to win these games in overtime. We set ourselves up well. On their 6-on-5 goal, it went through two sticks, I thought we were in pretty good spots. It's unfortunate. When Larks gets that goal, it'd be nice to close it out because that's two big points and to not give them any and now they walk away with two and we only get one, it's a big difference." - Justin Abdelkader
Quotable II: "Again, we did a lot of good things. Tight game. Got that second one as a shorty. Nice play by Helm and good finish by Larks. And they tie it up when the pull the goalie. Overtime loss." - Zetterberg
