Coyotes Select Eight Players on Second Day of NHL Draft

GLENDALE, ARIZONA - The Arizona Coyotes selected eight players during the 2017 NHL Entry Draft at the United Center in Chicago, Illinois on Saturday.

The Coyotes acquired a second-round draft choice (44th overall), a third-round draft choice (75th overall) and a fourth-round draft choice (108th overall) from the Philadelphia Flyers in exchange for Arizona's second-round draft choice (35th overall).

GLENDALE, ARIZONA - The Arizona Coyotes selected defenseman Pierre-Olivier Joseph from Charlottetown (QMJHL) in the first round (23rd overall) of the 2017 NHL Entry Draft at the United Center in Chicago, IL on Friday.

The 6-foot-2, 163-pound Joseph registered 6-33-39 with 54 penalty minutes (PIM) in 62 games with Charlottetown, which was the second-most points among team blueliners. Joseph recorded 3-17-20 on the power-play and his 17 power-play assists were the second-highest on the team. His 33 assists were the sixth-most single season assists by a defenseman in club history.

The 17-year-old native of Chambly, QC recorded 7-40-47 with 84 PIM in 110 career regular season games and he has totaled 2-7-9 with 18 PIM in 27 career playoff games with Charlottetown.

GLENDALE, ARIZONA ---  Arizona Coyotes General Manager John Chayka announced today that the Coyotes have acquired center Derek Stepan and goaltender Antti Raanta from the New York Rangers in exchange for defenseman Anthony DeAngelo and the Coyotes' seventh overall pick in the 2017 NHL Entry Draft.

"We are thrilled to acquire Derek," said Chayka. "Our organization has been searching for a true number one center for over a decade and we are confident that he can be that for us."

GLENDALE, ARIZONA --- Arizona Coyotes General Manager John Chayka announced today that the Coyotes have acquired defenseman Niklas Hjalmarsson (YAHL-mar-son) from the Chicago Blackhawks in exchange for defenseman Connor Murphy and forward Laurent Dauphin.

"We are very pleased to acquire Niklas," said Chayka. "He's an elite player and one of the NHL's top defenseman. He's a warrior who played a key role in Chicago's last three Stanley Cup wins. We are thrilled to have him join our team."

GLENDALE, ARIZONA --- Arizona Coyotes Owner, Chairman and Governor Andrew Barroway announced today that the Coyotes and Head Coach Dave Tippett have mutually agreed to part ways. A search for a new head coach will begin immediately. 

"On behalf of the entire Coyotes organization, I would like to sincerely thank 'Tip' for all of his hard work and the many contributions he made to our organization," said Barroway. "'Tip' is a man of high character and we are very grateful for his leadership during his tenure as our head coach. Ultimately, we have some philosophical differences on how to build our team. Therefore, we mutually agreed that it is in everyone's best interest to have a coaching change."

Coyotes Announce 2017-18 Schedule

GLENDALE, ARIZONA - The Arizona Coyotes announced today the Coyotes schedule for the 2017-18 National Hockey League season. The Coyotes will play a total of 82 regular season games (41 home and 41 away), as well as seven preseason games (three home and four away). The Coyotes open their 21st year in the Valley of the Sun on Thursday, Oct. 5 at the HONDA Center against Ryan Getzlaf, Corey Perry and the Anaheim Ducks. Arizona will host the expansion Vegas Golden Knights on Saturday, Oct. 7 at 6:00 p.m. in the home opener.

GLENDALE, ARIZONA --- The Arizona Coyotes currently own the 7th and 23rd overall draft selections in the 2017 NHL Entry Draft, which takes place on Friday, June 23 at the United Center in Chicago, IL and will be televised on NBC Sports Network beginning at 4 p.m. MT. Rounds 2-7 will take place on Saturday, June 24, starting at 7 a.m. MT, with NHL Network providing live coverage to viewers throughout North America.

The Coyotes own seven picks in the seven-round draft, including two selections in the first and third rounds. This marks the second time in Coyotes history and the third time in franchise history that the club has owned the seventh overall selection in the NHL Draft. The Winnipeg Jets chose Shane Doan seventh overall in the 1995 NHL Draft while Arizona selected Clayton Keller at No. 7 in 2016. It also marks the third time in franchise history that the Coyotes have owned the 23rd overall selection. The team drafted Ben Eager in 2002 and selected Moe Mantha in 1980.
