NHL EDGE stats 2026-27 season outlook for Winnipeg Jets

As part of NHL.com's 32 in 32 series, we will identify key NHL EDGE stats for each team to preview the 2026-27 season. Today, we look at three advanced metrics trends surrounding the Winnipeg Jets:

1. Connor’s elite shot, goal-scoring prowess

Kyle Connor, who ranked ninth in the entire NHL and third among forwards in skating distance at all strengths (292.98 miles) last season, finished in the 93rd percentile or higher among forwards in mid-range goals (14; 97th percentile), high-danger goals (17; 94th percentile) and long-range goals (two; 93rd percentile). Connor was tied for sixth in the entire NHL in mid-range shots on goal (108) and finished among the leaders at his position in long-range shots on goal (31; 97th percentile) and high-danger shots on goal (64; 88th percentile). Connor also ranked among the forward leaders in skating distance at even strength (238.33 miles; fifth) and on the power play (41.64; 10th) last season. It’s worth noting that Connor was tied for second in the entire NHL in mid-range shots on goal (119) and was fourth in mid-range goals (18) in 2024-25.

The 29-year-old finished in the 99th percentile at his position in offensive zone starts percentage (47.0) last season and ranked among the forward leaders in hardest shot (90.91 mph; 87th percentile), 70-80 mph shot attempts (104; 97th percentile), 80-90 mph shot attempts (39; 94th percentile) and average shot speed (56.62 mph; 79th percentile). Connor also excelled in 18-20 mph speed bursts (688; 96th percentile) and 20-plus mph bursts (162; 88th percentile).

2. Scheifele’s mid-range goals, Vilardi’s high-danger goals

Mark Scheifele, who was tied for 11th in wrist shot goals (18) and tied for seventh among forwards in slap shot goals (six) last season, was tied for fourth in the entire League in mid-range goals (18). Scheifele also ranked highly among forwards in mid-range shots on goal (70; 91st percentile), high-danger shots on goal (66; 89th percentile) and high-danger goals (11; 78th percentile). In 2024-25, Scheifele ranked fourth in the entire NHL in high-danger goals (25) and finished highly among forwards in mid-range goals (10; 90th percentile), high-danger shots on goal (84; 97th percentile) and mid-range shots on goal (56; 85th percentile).

The 33-year-old ranked fourth among forwards in skating distance at all strengths (290.63 miles) and skated 4.43 miles against the Anaheim Ducks on February 27, which was tied for the ninth-most miles skated in a game by a forward last season. Scheifele, who finished among the forward leaders in offensive zone starts percentage (47.0; 99th percentile), 18-20 mph speed bursts (693; 96th percentile) and max skating speed (23.44 mph; 94th percentile) last season, also ranked highly at his position in skating distance at even-strength (246.87 miles; second) and on the power play (39.93; 98th percentile).

Gabriel Vilardi scored a career-high 30 goals last season and was tied for eighth in the entire NHL in high-danger goals (23). Vilardi, who ranked highly among forwards in high-danger shots on goal (85; 96th percentile), also finished among the forward leaders in offensive zone starts percentage (45.0; 97th percentile), offensive zone time percentage (44.8; 82nd percentile) and skating distance at all strengths (232.38 miles; 91st percentile). Vilardi also ranked among the forward leaders in high-danger goals (22; tied for 10th) and high-danger shots on goal (73; 94th percentile) in 2024-25.

3. Morrissey’s goals from all three locations

Josh Morrissey, who ranks eighth among defensemen in goals (66) over the past five seasons combined (since 2021-22), was tied for 10th in the entire NHL in long-range goals (five) and finished highly at his position in high-danger goals (three; tied for ninth) and mid-range goals (six; 94th percentile) last season. Morrissey was tied for third among defensemen in slap shot goals (seven) last season and ranked highly among defensemen in long-range shots on goal (77; 93rd percentile), mid-range shots on goal (34; 92nd percentile) and 80-90 mph shot attempts (69; 94th percentile). In 2024-25, Morrissey ranked in the 90th percentile or higher at his position in long-range goals (six; 98th percentile), high-danger goals (four; 97th percentile), long-range shots on goal (90; 94th percentile), mid-range shots on goal (38; 94th percentile) and high-danger shots on goal (10; 91st percentile).​

The 31-year-old ranked highly at his position in skating distance at all strengths (282.27 miles; 97th percentile) and on the power play (34.91; 96th percentile) last season. Morrissey also finished among the defenseman leaders in offensive zone starts percentage (42.0; 91st percentile), offensive zone time percentage (44.3; 86th percentile) and 20-plus mph speed bursts (53; 81st percentile). Morrissey has proven to be one of the best goal-scorers at his position in each season of the puck and player tracking era (since 2021-22).
