DRW Lose

DETROIT -- The Detroit Red Wings battled adversity all night, erasing two leads, but after 65 minutes of play and a five-round shootout, the Dallas Stars prevailed, 3-2, on Monday Night at American Airlines Center.

Fourth-line forward Luke Glendening scored both goals for Detroit and goaltender Thomas Greiss made 34 saves to help the Wings earn a point, but Denis Gurianov's goal in the fifth round of the shootout allowed the Stars to skate away with the win.
With the win, Dallas has earned a point in seven straight games and in 10 of its last 12, improving to 18-14-12 this season. The Red Wings fell to 16-24-7 with the loss, including 1-2 in shootouts this season.

The Red Wings outshot the Stars, 6-3, in the first 15 minutes of the game, but at 15:07 of the opening frame, Darren Helm was called for delay of game and the Stars' power play made the Wings pay.
Dallas was extremely patient in its first man advantage, and after an impressive passing play with Miro Heiskanen and John Klingberg, Stars forward Roope Hintz ripped a wicked wrist shot over Greiss' shoulder and into the net to take a 1-0 lead with 4:10 to go in the first.
The Stars took the 1-0 lead into the first intermission, but the Red Wings tied the game at 7:45 of the second period shortly after killing an Evgeny Svechnikov high-sticking penalty.
Svechnikov took a pass from Alex Biega, gained the zone and fired a shot that Stars goaltender Anton Khudobin stopped, but Glendening gobbled up the rebound and fired a back-handed shot that found the back of the net to even the score at 1-1.

The Stars regained the lead 3:21 later when rookie forward Jason Robertson found a rebound of his own and buried a point-blank shot to make it 2-1 at 11:06 of the second period. Robertson's goal, which gave him 33 points on the season to lead all NHL rookies, was assisted by Hintz, giving Hintz 13 points in his last six games.
Glendening answered again, though, with his second goal of the period at 16:55 of the middle frame on a perfect redirection of Biega's point shot that slid under Khudobin's pad. Glendening's fifth goal of the season was also assisted by Helm and tied the game once again, at 2-2.

The Red Wings thought they took a 3-2 lead midway through the third period when Sam Gagner fired a shot from the blue line that beat Khudobin, but Vladislav Namestnikov was called for goaltender interference and the goal was waved off.
After a scoreless third period, the game went into overtime. Both teams traded several chances in an exciting three-on-three OT period, but the game was extended to a shootout.
Robertson opened the shootout by beating Greiss five-hole, but Red Wings captain Dylan Larkin answered with a pretty five-hole goal of his own to tie the shootout, 1-1.
After both teams missed their next three attempts, Gurianov made several fakes to get Greiss out of position before burying a shot to take the lead, and Red Wings defenseman Filip Hronek missed his attempt to give the Stars the win.
The Red Wings can quickly put the tough loss in the rearview mirror as they get right back to action Tuesday night in the second of a four-game home-and-home series against the Stars. Tuesday's puck drop from American Airlines Center is set for 8:30 p.m. ET on Bally Sports Detroit Plus.
