Trending: Ovechkin gets overtime winner to defeat Wings

DETROIT - The Red Wings aren't playing poorly but they're not getting the results they want and need.
The Wings allowed a game-tying power-play goal with 1:01 left in the third and then an Alex Ovechkin power-play goal at 1:56 of overtime as they fell to the Washington Capitals, 4-3, Friday night at Little Caesars Arena.

After starting the season 4-1, the Wings are 0-2-1 this week against the Tampa Bay Lightning, Toronto Maple Leafs and Capitals.
Darren Helm (shorthanded) and Tomas Tatar scored for Detroit.
Andre Burakovsky, Jay Beagle (shorthanded), T.J. Oshie (power play) had the other goals for Washington.
1. Petr Mrazek: Petr Mrazek has a tradition of playing well against the Washington Capitals. Two years ago, he made 38 saves in a 1-0 shutout, 15 of those saves coming against Ovechkin. Mrazek had to make many spectacular saves, especially against the Capitals' potent power play. Evgeny Kuznetsov had a breakaway after a Capitals power play ended and Mrazek was equal to the task. Overall, Mrazek had 37 saves.

2. Tomas Tatar: Tomas Tatar can be a streaky scorer when he gets going so it was a good sign that he scored his first goal of the season Wednesday in Toronto. On Friday night against the Capitals, Tatar tripled his season goal total. He scored at 5:24 of the third on a bizarre-angle deflection of Dylan Larkin's shot. That tied the game at 2. Then with Washington defenseman John Carlson in the box for delay of game, Tatar got a perfect pass from captain Henrik Zetterberg and buried it at 12:45 of the third for a 3-2 lead. Tatar now has 299 career points.

I think he's played well but hasn't gotten rewarded, so it's certainly good to see him start to score. 3. Special teams: Things were looking good for Detroit's special teams early when Darren Helm scored a shorthanded goal at 4:31 of the second period. It was the first goal of the season for Helm and his 10th career shorthanded goal. Helm is the 13th Red Wing to reach double-digit shorthanded goals and is the team's active career leader. The Capitals got a shorthanded goal of their own when Jay Beagle scored at 1:25 of the third, giving his team a 2-1 lead. One of Tatar's goals came on the power play but the Wings gave up two to the Capitals on the power play, one by Oshie at 18:59 of the third with the goaltender pulled for a 6-on-4 advantage. Trevor Daley got called for tripping Ovechkin in overtime and Ovechkin didn't miss on his seventh shot of the game, scoring a 4-on-3 goal at 1:56.
