PHILADELPHIA -Since the 1997 Stanley Cup Finals, the Red Wings have not had much luck in Philadelphia.
They came into Tuesday's game 2-11-1 in their last 14 contests in the City of Brotherly Love.

Unfortunately for the Wings, that trend continued as they left with a 3-2 loss, their fourth in a row.
Dennis Cholowski (power play) and Jacob de la Rose scored for the Wings while James van Riemsdyk, Radko Gudas and Shayne Gostisbehere scored for the Flyers.
Jonathan Bernier, starting in place of Jimmy Howard, who injured his back in warmups, made 30 saves for Detroit. Philadelphia goaltender Carter Hart, making his NHL debut, needed to make only 20 for his first career win.
The Wings fell to 14-16-5 while the Flyers improved to 13-15-4.
Detroit wraps up its three-game road trip in Carolina against the Hurricanes on Thursday.
The Flyers host the Nashville Predators on Thursday.

  1. Dennis Cholowski:Cholowski was one player who did know quite a bit about Hart, having faced him in the playoffs last season when Cholowski was with the Portland Winterhawks and Hart was backstopping the Everett Silvertips. With Oskar Lindblom in the box for slashing, Cholowski moved into the mid-slot for a shot that beat Hart at 4:12 of the second period, tying the game at 1. Gustav Nyquist and Dylan Larkin assisted on the goal. Cholowski and Nyquist are tied for the team lead in power-play points with eight. Larkin has seven. Cholowski finished with 25 shifts for 22:31, had one shot, one hit, four giveaways, two blocked shots and was minus-1.
Quotable:"It's a positive. As of late we've been struggling a little bit. The last couple games we got a few goals, so that's a positive sign but we didn't come up with the win and we had a lot of opportunities. If we can get a few more that might help." - Cholowski on the power-play goal
  1. Jonathan Bernier:Even if you're not supposed to start the game, you always have to be ready because you never know what can happen. During warmups, Jimmy Howard suffered a back injury, which made Bernier the starter. The Wings did not do Bernier any favors, taking two quick penalties in the first period, one on Michael Rasmussen for interference with Travis Konecny and another a bench minor for too many men on the ice. Although the Flyers did not convert, they got a little momentum going and prevented the Wings from getting many shots on Hart. At 18:33 of the first, James van Riemsdyk deflected Claude Giroux's shot from the high slot for a 1-0 lead. Gostisbehere got the second assist. After failing to clear the puck, the Wings let Gudas enter the zone and his booming shot beat Bernier at 8:52 of the second. The Wings challenged that there was goaltender interference but after the officials reviewed it, the goal stood. At 15:17 of the second, Gostisbehere's shot from the mid-slot beat Bernier for a 3-1 Philadelphia lead.
Quotable:"Obviously, it's not the ideal way, but at the same time, you come to the rink, you gotta make sure you're ready for whatever reason. It's probably worse when you're halfway through the game and you've been sitting for an hour. At least I got a few shots in warm up and I felt good right off the bat." - Bernier
Quotable II:"He was great. He made big saves for us. He came in on late notice and made some big stops and he was a wall back there. I made a bad play on the one goal and it cost us that goal, so you have to be more, myself included, responsible defensively. But he was a brick wall and we need that to continue." - Cholowski
  1. Jacob de la Rose:The Wings picked up de la Rose on waivers from the Montreal Canadiens and he quickly established himself as a solid defensive forward and penalty killer. But it's always nice when your fourth-line players can chip in offensively. Just two minutes into the third period, Martin Frk passed from behind the net to de la Rose in front of the net and de la Rose beat Hart for his second goal of the season. Christoffer Ehn picked up the second assist. de la Rose finished with 15 shifts for 9:15, had one shot, was 2-of-6 in the face-off circle and was even.
Quotable:"Play quicker on defense. Just play quicker in general. That way we're coming over them instead. Of course, sending more pucks to the net. I thought there were times tonight where we had some real good O-zone time, but we didn't generate a lot of chances, a lot of shots, so sometimes just throw the puck in there. We know we have a few guys, Ras (Michael Rasmussen) and Abby (Justin Abdelkader) and so forth, that are really making it hard on their goalie. So, we got to take advantage of that and throw more pucks to the net." - Niklas Kronwall
Quotable II:"I thought we had tons of guys with their B and C games. Not even close to enough guys with their A games. I've said it to our guys before, when you're a little bit shorthanded, guys gotta rise to the occasion and play their A games on a nightly basis and I don't think it was close. Whether it was how they handled the puck, whether it was executing, whether it was poor turnovers, whether it was slow in D-zone. As a group we were way too slow in the D-zone. We'll work on that tomorrow and get way better at that. But as an individual, guys have to rise up and play way better than they played tonight." - Blashill
