Crosby led Pittsburgh to a 3-0-1 week, recording two goals, five assists, seven points and two game-winning goals in those four games. His assist and point total were tied for third in the NHL last week, while he and Colorado's Cale Makar (2) were the only players in the league to notch multiple game-winning goals. Pittsburgh picked up seven points in the standings last week, a figure that is tied with Arizona (7) for most in the NHL.
Pittsburgh kicked off the week with a wild 5-4 overtime win against Columbus on March 7, which included a four-goal comeback for just the ninth time in franchise history and the first time since Dec. 11, 2006 against the Washington Capitals. Crosby finished the contest with a game-high three points (1G-2A), which was capped off with his 20th-career overtime tally, surpassing Jaromir Jagr (19) for the second-most overtime goals in NHL history.
Crosby and the Penguins concluded the week in dramatic fashion once again as they defeated the Metropolitan Division rival New York Rangers, 3-2, in overtime. Crosby notched his team-best 22nd multi-point effort (2A), and had the primary assist on Kris Letang's overtime winner. The assist boosts his career point total in overtime to 43, which is the most in NHL history.
Pittsburgh's captain leads the team with 80 points (29G-51A) in 66 games, and has hit the 80-point plateau for the 12th time in his career. Throughout NHL history, only six other players have accomplished this feat - Wayne Gretzky (17), Mark Messier (13), Dale Hawerchuk (13), Marcel Dionne (13), Joe Sakic (12) and Steve Yzerman (12).
The Penguins return to action on Tuesday, March 14 when they take on the Montreal Canadiens at PPG Paints Arena. Puck drop is set for 7:00 PM.
