GAME PREVIEW

The Penguins return home for the first time this season as they take on the Chicago Blackhawks at PPG Paints Arena.
The Penguins are facing the Blackhawks for the first time since November 9, 2019 - a 3-2 shootout win for the team in Pittsburgh. Jake Guentzel and Bryan Rust scored in regulation, and then Guentzel and Jared McCann converted in the shootout.
Tonight's game is the first of a season-long eight-game homestand (0-0-0).
The Penguins enter the 2021-22 season with an active sellout streak of 632 consecutive home games (regular season + playoffs). This includes all of the games from last season except the eight home games at the start of the season where no fans were in the stands.

QUICK HITS

Pittsburgh went 20-7-2 against Western Conference clubs in 2019-20. That season, Evgeni Malkin (8G-18A) and Bryan Rust (12G-14A) led Pittsburgh in scoring versus the Western Conference with 26 points apiece.
Bryan Rust has five goals (six points total) in six games versus Chicago, which includes his second career hat trick on December 12, 2018, in Chicago. He enters tonight's game with a three-game point streak versus them (4G-1A).
Pittsburgh is 28-15-10 all-time in home openers, including a 5-2-1 mark in its last eight games.
Goaltender Tristan Jarry is 14-1-1 in his last 18 regular-season games played dating back to March 24, 2021. In that span, he has a 2.55 goals-against average, .911 save percentage and two shutouts.
Jeff Carter's goal on Thursday night was the 400th of his career. He is the seventh active player, and third current Penguin (Sidney Crosby, 486; Evgeni Malkin, 424), to reach 400 NHL goals. He has 14 points (10G-4A) in 16 games since joining Pittsburgh last season.

HOME SWEET HOME

Tonight, the Penguins take the ice at PPG Paints Arena for the first time this season looking to build off of the success they had at home last year. The Penguins finished the 2020-21 campaign tied for second in the NHL in home wins (22), and were one of just eight teams in the league to win 20 games at home. Pittsburgh also finished last season with points in 12 of their final 13 home games (10-1-2). The team's .821 points percentage at home was the best in franchise history.
