Lalonde acknowledged that while Detroit ultimately succeeded in snapping its three-game losing streak, the Red Wings (17-15-7; 41 points) were "very fortunate" to earn two points against the Jets (26-14-1).
"I'm taken aback with how poorly we played with how well we've played of late, as crazy as it sounds, without getting results," Lalonde said. "Bottom line is we were looking to find a win. We did that."
Moritz Seider paced Detroit with a career-high four-point night, becoming the first Red Wings defenseman to record four assists in a game since Mike Green on Oct. 5, 2017.
"It was not our best," said Seider, who is also the first Detroit blueliner to register three helpers in a single period since Nicklas Lidstrom on March 23, 1998. "But I think tomorrow we will turn the page and look at the result with a big smile on our face. It was a big win for us. We dug ourselves into a little bit of a hole in the last couple of games, but found a way to get out of there tonight."
Jake Walman, Jonatan Berggren and Oskar Sundqvist all scored first-period goals for Detroit, which led, 3-1, heading into the first intermission. After Dominik Kubalik and captain Dylan Larkin found the back of the net in the second, Robby Fabbri scored early in the final frame to put the Red Wings ahead, 6-4. Lucas Raymond added an empty-netter with 1:20 remaining to cap off the scoring, finishing with his seven multi-point game of the season.
Ville Husso made 32 saves for Detroit, which improved to 10-8-3 on home ice.
"I feel like we've lost games where we've played a lot better," Raymond said. "To be able to get a win when we're not top performing was huge."
