Seven players representing the Detroit Red Wings organization are impressing early for their respective countries at the 2023 International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) World Championship, which runs from May 12-28 in Tampere, Finland, and Riga, Latvia.

As of Tuesday, May 16, Team USA led Group A with nine points while Team Switzerland paced Group B with nine points.

UNITED STATES

Red Wings forward prospect Carter Mazur is continuing his development at this year's Championship after appearing in six games with the American Hockey League's Grand Rapids Griffins this past season.

In last Friday's (May 12) 4-1 win over Finland, Mazur tallied an assist and had a plus-1 rating in 12:21 of ice time. The Jackson, Mich., native earned a plus-2 rating in 12:35 of ice time in a dominating 7-1 victory for the U.S. over Hungary on Sunday, then logged 11:31 of ice time in a 3-2 win over Germany the following day.

CANADA

Joe Veleno had a strong opening game for Team Canada, notching a goal and an assist in last Friday's 6-0 shutout win over Latvia.

The 23-year-old forward registered 14:47 of ice time in Sunday's 5-2 victory over Slovenia, then logged 11:12 of ice time in a 2-1 shootout win against Slovakia on Monday.

SWEDEN

Team Sweden, featuring Lucas Raymond and Jonatan Berggren, is also off to a fast start at the tournament.

Last Friday, Berggren tallied an assist while Raymond registered 16:38 of ice time in a 1-0 shutout win over Germany. Roughly 48 hours later, Raymond and Berggren each picked up an assist as Sweden blanked Austria, 5-0.

And on Monday, Raymond scored twice in a shootout, including the game-winner, to defeat Finland by a 2-1 score. It also marked the third straight contest that Berggren recorded an assist.

"It was a tight game," Raymond, an alternate captain for the Swedes,

. "Both teams played very well. It was nice to get the win."

GERMANY

Through three preliminary round games, Moritz Seider has been a reliable presence on defense for his native Germany.

After logging 20:51 of ice time in last Friday's loss to Sweden, Seider registered 22:50 of ice time in a 4-3 loss to Finland the next day. Then on Monday, the 22-year-old defenseman tallied an assist and paced Germany in minutes (23:44) against the United States.

FINLAND

Olli Maatta is providing steady play on both ends of the ice while wearing the 'A' for Finland.

Maatta played the second-most minutes (18:06) for his club in last Friday's loss to the U.S., then recorded an assist last Saturday (May 13) against Germany. In Monday's loss to Sweden, the 28-year-old blueliner earned a plus-1 rating in 20:36 of ice time.

CZECH REPUBLIC

Dominik Kubalik is providing an early offensive spark with Team Czech Republic.

Kubalik collected a pair of assists in last Friday's 3-2 win over Slovakia, then found the back of the net twice in Sunday's 5-1 victory over Kazakhstan.

The 27-year-old forward notched a goal and an assist in Monday's 4-3 overtime loss to Latvia, marking Kubalik's third consecutive multi-point game in the tournament.
