Penguins defenseman P.O Joseph and Team Canada took home gold at the 2023 IIHF World Championship in Sunday's 5-2 win versus Germany. This marked Joseph's first time representing Canada at an international level.

Joseph, 23, registered one goal and ranked fourth among Team Canada defenders with a plus-6 in 10 games. His go-ahead goal in game two against Slovenia led the team to a 5-2 victory. Team Canada went 8-1-1 and their 93.55% penalty kill ranked second at the tournament.

Penguins forwards Nick Bonino and Drew O'Connor, as well as goaltender Casey DeSmith represented Team USA at the tournament. Bonino, 35, was named Team USA's captain and recorded four points (3G-1A) and was a plus-4 in nine games. O'Connor, 24, tallied eight points (3G-5A) and was plus-8 in 10 games played. DeSmith, 31, had seven starts for the team and went 5-2-0 with a .918 save percentage, 1.95 goals against average and two shutouts.

Penguins forward Alex Nylander represented Team Sweden at the tournament, recording two points (2A) and was a plus-2 in eight games. Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins forward Justin Addamo represented Team France, tallying two goals in seven games and defenseman Thimo Nickl represented Team Austria.
