Under the guidance of head coach Mike Sullivan, Pittsburgh is playing some of the best and most consistent hockey in the league. On the morning of Nov. 17, the Penguins ranked 24th in the NHL with a 5-6-4 record and 14 points. Since Nov. 18, the Penguins have rattled off a 36-14-6 record for 78 points and a .696 points percentage, all of which are second in the Eastern Conference and third-best in the NHL behind the Colorado Avalanche (43-9-5, 91 points, .798 points percentage) and Florida Panthers (38-13-3, 79 points, .731 points percentage).
With just 11 games left in the regular season, Pittsburgh looks poised to clinch a playoff berth for a 16th consecutive year. The Penguins' current stretch of 15-straight playoff appearances is the longest active postseason streak among teams in the major North American professional sports leagues, and is the eighth-longest run of any NHL club since the 1967 NHL Expansion.
