Sidney Crosby recorded his 82nd point of the season tonight against the New York Rangers, ensuring that he will average a point per game for the 18th time in his 18-year career.
Throughout NHL history, only Hall-of-Famer Wayne Gretzky (19) has recorded more point-per-game seasons than Crosby. Below is a look at the most point-per-game seasons in NHL history

| Wayne Gretzky | 19 | | Sidney Crosby | 18 | | Gordie Howe | 17 | | Mario Lemieux | 15 | | Mark Messier | 15 | | Marcel Dionne | 15 | | Joe Sakic | 15 | | Ron Francis | 15 | | Evgeni Malkin | 14 | | Player | Point-Per-Game Seasons | | --- | --- |
Crosby's teammate, Evgeni Malkin, who has picked up 72 points (24G-48A) in 68 games, is on pace to record his 15th point-per-game season, and is looking to join the above five Hall-of-Famers, and members of the league's '100 Greatest NHL Players' list, in a six-way tie for the fourth-most point-per-game seasons in league history.
The Pittsburgh captain, who has appeared in all 68 games thus far, leads the team and ranks 11th in the NHL with 82 points (29G-53A). Of his 82 points, 59 of them have come at even strength which is tied for third in the league. He's one goal shy of reaching the 30-goal plateau for the 11th time in his career, which would tie Mario Lemieux for most 30-goal seasons in franchise history:
| Mario Lemieux | 11 | | Sidney Crosby | 10 | | Jaromir Jagr | 10 | | Evgeni Malkin | 6 | | Jean Pronovost | 6 | | Player | 30-Goal Seasons | | --- | --- |
This season marked the 12th time Crosby has notched 80 points or more in a season as he joined Wayne Gretzky (17), Mark Messier (13), Dale Hawerchuk (13), Marcel Dionne (13), Joe Sakic (12) and Steve Yzerman (12) as the only players in NHL history with 12 or more 80-point campaigns.
Crosby entered the 2022-23 campaign tied for 21st place on the NHL's all-time points list (1,409), and has since risen to 15th place and sits nine points shy of 1,500 in his career.
