Top 250 rankings for 2017-18, Update No. 3

With trades, the NHL Expansion Draft, the 2017 NHL Draft, and free agency, the fantasy hockey landscape has been shaken up by the flurry of roster activity.
There have been several trades involving high-end fantasy players. Left wing Artemi Panarin, a top 30 asset, was sent to the Columbus Blue Jackets after forming the most productive point pair in the NHL with right wing Patrick Kane for the Chicago Blackhawks over the past two seasons. The Montreal Canadiens acquired forward Jonathan Drouin, who has a chance to break out with an expanded 5-on-5 role. Other prominent forwards who were traded include Brayden Schenn (St. Louis Blues), Brandon Saad (Chicago Blackhawks) and Jordan Eberle (New York Islanders), who will have a chance to skate with Vladimir Tarasenko, Jonathan Toews and John Tavares, respectively. Forwards Marcus Johansson (New Jersey Devils) and Derek Stepan (Arizona Coyotes) should remain productive fantasy players but could see a dip in value after being traded.

The Vegas Golden Knights, who begin play this season, selected three-time Stanley Cup champion goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury and goal-scorers James Neal and Jonathan Marchessault in the expansion draft. The Golden Knights also traded for young power-play defenseman Shea Theodore and signed Kontinental Hockey League forward Vadim Shipachyov to be their No. 1 center.

The biggest question after the 2017 draft is whether centers Nico Hischier (Devils) and Nolan Patrick (Philadelphia Flyers) can make an impact even remotely comparable to the top picks of the past two years. Connor McDavid (Edmonton Oilers) and Jack Eichel (Buffalo Sabres) went No. 1 and No. 2 in the 2015 NHL Draft, and Auston Matthews (Toronto Maple Leafs) and Patrik Laine (Winnipeg Jets) were selected at the top of the 2016 NHL Draft. Hischier and Patrick each will have a clear opportunity to land a top-six role for his new team and join the top 250 rankings based on potential.
In free agency, right wing Alexander Radulov surprisingly signed with the Dallas Stars, catapulting in the fantasy rankings with a chance to play with Jamie Benn, Tyler Seguin and Jason Spezza. Defenseman Kevin Shattenkirk will bring power-play expertise to the New York Rangers, and veteran forward Patrick Marleau left the San Jose Sharks to join the Toronto Maple Leafs and Matthews, Mitchell Marner and William Nylander. Another KHL forward, Evgenii Dadonov, will return to the NHL and could be a fantasy sleeper with center Aleksander Barkov with the Florida Panthers.

Lastly, some goaltenders around the NHL have renewed fantasy upside. With Dallas' many improvements, Ben Bishop appears poised to rejoin the top 10 or 15 at his position. Scott Darling (Carolina Hurricanes) and Antti Raanta (Coyotes) each will have a chance to translate efficiency as a backup to a starting role with his new team. Brian Elliott (signed with Flyers), Mike Smith (traded to Calgary Flames) and Steve Mason (signed with Jets) have bounce-back appeal, and Antti Niemi (Pittsburgh Penguins) and Ryan Miller (Anaheim Ducks) each can revitalize his career as a No. 2 goalie for an elite team.
