The Capitals selected Johansson as a winger when he was with Swedish club Farjestad, but in the 2009-10 season he was moved to center. His playing time and role increased and he finished with 10 goals and 20 points.
The 6-foot-1, 209-pound Johansson earned a spot on the Capitals roster for the start of the 2010-11 season made his NHL debut Oct. 8, 2010, in a 4-2 loss to the Atlanta Thrashers. He played 69 games as a rookie and contributed in all situations.
