Nicklas Backstrom Bio

Backstrom is the quiet superstar on a team with plenty of star power. He may not carry the name recognition of teammates Alex Ovechkin or Braden Holtby, but his play puts him in that elite company.

Since joining the Capitals in the 2007-08 season, Backstrom has been a consistent scorer and playmaker. Those capabilities, however, have always been on display beginning in 2006 when, at the age of 18 years, six months, he became the youngest player to represent Sweden at the World Championship. He appeared in four games as Sweden captured the gold medal.
