A first-round pick (No. 26) at the 2004 NHL Draft, Schneider played three seasons for Boston College and was named to the Hockey East All-Rookie Team in 2005. He was named to the conference's Second All-Star Team and the NCAA East First All-American Team in 2006, when he had a .930 save percentage and a 2.03 goals-against average in 37 games.
Schneider played his first three professional seasons mostly with Manitoba of the American Hockey League but made his NHL debut against the Calgary Flames on Nov. 29, 2008 and got his first win against the Minnesota Wild on Dec. 5. In eight NHL games, he went 2-4-1 with a 3.38 GAA and an .877 save percentage.
