Camp Roster Reduced to 55; Red Wings Host Penguins Tonight in Preseason Opener

DETROIT -The Detroit Red Wings today released forward Luke Kirwan from his amateur tryout. Kirwan will return to the Ontario Hockey League's Flint Firebirds.

Detroit's roster currently stands at 55 players with another six World Cup of Hockey participants expected to rejoin the team this week. The Red Wings' preseason schedule begins tonight with a matchup against the defending Stanley Cup-champion Pittsburgh Penguins at 7:30 p.m. at Joe Louis Arena. Detroit will travel to Boston on Wednesday to take on the Bruins at 7 p.m. in the second game of the preseason.
