The Detroit Red Wings scored three goals in the third period in less than two minutes of game time to defeat the Ottawa Senators, 4-2, in the annual New Year's Eve game at Little Caesars Arena on Saturday night.

Detroit once again fell behind in the early stages, with the Senators jumping out to a 2-0 lead after the first period. Pius Suter got the Red Wings on the scoreboard mid-way through the second frame, while Lucas Raymond, Elmer Soderblom and Michael Rasmussen each tallied third-period goals to secure Detroit's second straight home win, and its third victory in the past four games.
With the win, the Red Wings ended the 2022 calendar year with a 16-12-7 record (39 points), while Ottawa moved to 16-17-3 (35 points) on the season.

NEXT UP: The Red Wings will return home to host the New Jersey Devils on Wednesday, Jan. 4 at 7 p.m. Detroit will play five of its next six games at Little Caesars Arena.

Claude Giroux scored his 15th goal of the season with a deep back-handed shot that beat Red Wings netminder Magnus Hellberg.
Ottawa 2, Detroit 1 (8:42, 2nd Period)
Suter's wrist shot from just outside the left faceoff dot was assisted by Raymond after an opportunistic feed near Ottawa's goal. It was Suter's first goal in the past 18 games.

Detroit 2, Ottawa 2 (1:33, 3rd period)
Raymond tallied the equalizer with a redirected tip-in following a shot by Olli Maatta. It was Raymond's first goal since Dec. 19 against the Washington Capitals.

Detroit 3, Ottawa 2 (2:36, 3rd period)
Just 1:18 later, Soderblom extended his point streak to four games after receiving a pass from Joe Veleno in the left faceoff circle and finishing past Ottawa goalie Cam Talbot. It marked Soderblom's second goal in as many home games at Little Caesars Arena after also finding the back of the net on Dec. 21 against Tampa Bay.

Detroit 4, Ottawa 2 (3:13, 3rd period)
Rasmussen kept the rally going, scoring on a wrap-around after he stole the puck away from Talbot from behind the goal. Detroit completed a scoring frenzy of three goals in just 1:55 of game time.
