QUICK HITS

Jake Guentzel's shootout goal on Sunday was the third of his career, and second game-deciding shootout goal. Guentzel is now converting at 60% in his career in shootouts (3/5), and only Artemi Panarin (60.9%) and Ryan Donato (62.5%) have a better shooting percentage among all active skaters (min. 5 shots).
Evgeni Malkin has 67 points (21G-46A) in 48 career games against the Capitals, which includes 15 points (5G-10A) over his last 10 games versus Washington.
Through three games, Sidney Crosby has won a team-best 59.1% of his faceoffs taken (39-27). His 39 face-off wins are second most in the NHL only trailing Vancouver's Bo Horvat (45).
The Penguins are 8-3-1 their last 12 home games dating back to last season (Jan. 14, 2020). During that span, Sidney Crosby has amassed 24 points (5G-18A) in those 12 games.
Last season, Evgeni Malkin (2G-2A) and Sidney Crosby (2G-2A) each had a team-best four points in three games against Washington.

KAPANEN JOINS PRACTICE

Kasperi Kapanen speaks to the media after practice.

The Penguins got some good news on Monday, as newly-acquired winger Kasperi Kapanen joined the team for practice after completing his COVID testing protocol, which caused him to miss all of training camp and the first three games of the season.

Kapanen skated on Sidney Crosby's wing at yesterday's team practice. Originally drafted by Pittsburgh in the first round (22nd overall) in the 2014 NHL Draft, Kapanen spent the first 202 games of his career with the Toronto Maple Leafs. The speedy winger has finished the 2019-20 campaign with 36 points (13G-23A) and a team-best two shorthanded goals in 69 games, and has recorded back-to-back 30-point seasons. Click
