Fantasy top 250 Skinner Neal 8.3 take 2

NHL.com's top 250 player rankings are based on past production and expectations for next season in standard Yahoo leagues. Fantasy owners should use these updated rankings as a basis for team evaluation, keeper decisions and offseason draft research. These rankings will be updated throughout the offseason after other signings, trades, injury and prospect news, training camp, NHL Preseason games, fantasy mock drafts and any other developments. We're two months away from the start of the 2018-19 season, so here are some fantasy hockey takeaways from recent developments around the NHL:
1. Skinner joins top 100 after trade: Left wing Jeff Skinner is the biggest riser in this top 250 rankings update, skyrocketing from 165th to 92nd after being traded to the Buffalo Sabres. He goes from a diminished role for the Carolina Hurricanes to a likely top-line spot with elite center Jack Eichel, who enters the top 30 overall after the development.

2. Other Sabres get boost: The fallout from the Skinner trade extends to most of the Sabres roster, including defenseman Rasmus Ristolainen, breakout candidate Sam Reinhart, goaltender Carter Hutton and even right wing Kyle Okposo, who joins the rankings after Buffalo drastically improved its top six. A lot boils down to whether Reinhart plays top-line right wing with Eichel and Skinner or is needed to play second-line center if rookie Casey Mittelstadt can't hold down that role (Ryan O'Reilly traded to St. Louis Blues on July 1). Hutton, projected to be a workhorse goalie for the Sabres and fantasy sleeper, has jumped big names like Carey Price of the Montreal Canadiens and Henrik Lundqvist of the New York Rangers after the latest roster improvement for Buffalo, whose most notable offseason move is drafting Rasmus Dahlin with the No. 1 pick in the 2018 NHL Draft.

3. Deep sleepers rise in rankings: Young forwards Jack Roslovic of the Winnipeg Jets and Daniel Sprong of the Pittsburgh Penguins are garnering fantasy attention for their respective teams, which have top-six holes that each player can fill. Roslovic, after the departure of veteran center Paul Stastny (signed with Vegas Golden Knights on July 1), should compete with Bryan Little for the coveted spot between elite right wing Patrik Laine and left wing Nikolaj Ehlers. Sprong is a candidate to flank the explosive duo of Sidney Crosby and Jake Guentzel if he makes the Penguins out of training camp. The Penguins could also explore using productive center Derick Brassard on the wing in their top six, leading to him cracking the top 200 rankings. And, with the Anaheim Ducks potentially having to play this season without second-line center Ryan Kesler (hip), wing Ondrej Kase is another young player with value in deeper leagues if he moves to the second line with frequent linemate Adam Henrique or gets a trial with elite center Ryan Getzlaf.

4. Neal joins top 150:Calgary Flames left wing Johnny Gaudreau, among the top 30 overall fantasy rankings, has reportedly
expressed the desire
for him and center Sean Monahan to skate with James Neal (signed five-year contract July 1). That news has prompted a bump for Neal into the top 150 overall and strengthens his bounce-back candidacy.
5. Hurricanes turn to youth after Skinner trade:The fantasy ramifications of the Skinner trade are not limited to the Sabres; Carolina is expected to go with a younger top six this season. Wing Valentin Zykov moved up and into the top 200 with the likelihood of playing on the first line and/or power play. Forward prospects Andrei Svechnikov and Martin Necas remain among the top 250 rankings after Skinner's departure with sneaky upside as rookies.
