The Pittsburgh Penguins have signed defenseman Declan Carlile to a two-year contract, it was announced today by President of Hockey Operations and General Manager Kyle Dubas.

The contract runs through the 2027-28 campaign and carries an average annual value of $1.5 million.

Carlile, 26, spent the 2025-26 season with the Tampa Bay organization, splitting the year between the Lighting and their AHL affiliate, the Syracuse Crunch. With the Lightning, Carlile suited up for 42 games recording one goal, two assists, three points and was plus-5. He notched 11 points (2G-9A) in 16 games at the AHL level while serving as an alternate captain for Syracuse.

The native of Hartland, Michigan also represented Team USA at the 2026 World Championship, accumulating one goal, two assists and three points in five games. Only Justin Faulk had more points on Team USA among defensemen. 

The 6-foot-3, 190-pound blueliner has spent his full five-year professional career with Tampa Bay where he’s recorded four points (2G-2A) in 46 career regular-season games. He’s also dressed in 211 regular-season games with Syracuse where he’s registered 24 goals, 57 assists, 81 points and is plus-52.

Prior to turning pro, the undrafted forward enjoyed a three-year collegiate career with Merrimack College from 2019-22 where he notched 56 points (13G-43A) in 83 games.
