Pittsburgh Penguins forward Jake Guentzel has been named the NHL's Third Star for the week ending Dec. 5, it was announced today.

Guentzel, who is riding the NHL's longest active point streak of 12 games (10G-6A), scored a league-leading (tied) five goals in three games this past week, including his fourth career hat trick and third career four-point game on Dec. 4 in Vancouver. Guentzel's three power-play goals, two of which came on a 5-on-3 man advantage in Vancouver, also led the league last week.
In the past week, Guentzel factored in on 85.7% (6-for-7) of Pittsburgh's goals, scoring 71.4% (5-for-7) himself.
Entering tonight's game in Seattle, Guentzel has points in every single road game this season (11GP, 10G-6A). His season-opening 11-game road point streak is tied with teammate Evgeni Malkin (11 GP in 2008-09) for the longest such streak in franchise history. Ten of Guentzel's team-leading 13 goals have come on the road, ranking third in the league in that category (tied).
During his career-long 12-game point streak, which began on Nov. 13, Guentzel's 10 goals lead the league while his 16 points rank fourth (tied). His 12-game streak is the third-longest in the NHL this season, following Edmonton's Connor McDavid (17) and Anaheim's Troy Terry (16). The last Penguins player to record a longer point streak than Guentzel was Pascal Dupuis in 2011-12 (17 GP).
