Last Time Out...

  • The Canes put on a penalty killing clinic on Sunday in New Jersey, going five-for-five en route to a 3-1 victory over the Devils.
  • Taylor Hall led the way offensively with a goal and an assist against his former team, while Brandon Bussi moved to 14-2-1 with a 28-save performance.
  • It was Carolina's first win in four games.

Previous Meetings vs. DAL This Season...

  • October 25: The Canes jumped out to a 2-0 lead but ultimately fell 3-2 in Dallas.

Electric Ehlers...

  • After being held without a goal for eight straight games to end December, Nikolaj Ehlers has opened 2026 with tallies in all three games since the start of the new year, totaling five points in that span.
  • Ehlers is the fourth Hurricane to post a goal-scoring streak of at least three games this season, joining Sebastian Aho, Eric Robinson and Andrei Svechnikov.
  • Notching seven points in his last five games, Ehlers ranks T-9th among all NHL skaters in that span and trails only Aho (9pts) among Hurricanes skaters.

In Net...

  • With two days since their last game, the Canes could either stick with their rotation and go with Frederik Andersen tonight, or turn back to the hotter hand, Brandon Bussi.
  • Things have not gone the way of Andersen lately, going 0-7-2 in his last nine appearances. He was strong through the first 40 minutes in both of his last two outings against Florida and Colorado, before things unraveled in the third for the team.
  • On the other hand, Bussi picked up yet another win on Sunday in Newark, turning away 28 of 29.

On The Other Side...

  • The Stars start a six-game road trip winless in their last five games. Although they've earned points in three of those contests, it's still a subpar stretch for a group that has high hopes in the Central Division.
  • Allowing four goals in all five of those contests, Team USA Olympian Jake Oettinger has been on the hook for three of those losses.
  • Despite their recent struggles, only the league-leading Colorado Avalanche (165) have scored more goals than the Stars (147) this season.
  • Dallas' power play has also been outstanding this year, ranking third in the league with a 29.1%

Injury Updates...

  • Goaltender Pyotr Kochetkov is set to undergo hip surgery and was declared "probably out for the year" by Rod Brind'Amour on Dec. 29.
  • Defenseman Jaccob Slavin suffered an upper-body injury on Dec. 19 in Florida. He was labeled as "week-to-week" and placed on injured reserve on Dec. 22.
  • Forward Seth Jarvis was also injured during overtime on Dec. 19, suffering an upper-body injury. He was placed on IR on Dec. 20 and labeled as "week-to-week" on Dec. 22. He returned to practice on Jan. 1 in a no-contact sweater.
  • Defenseman Charles Alexis Legault suffered a cut to his hand via a skate blade on Nov. 9 and underwent surgery to repair lacerated tendons on Nov. 10. He is expected to miss three to four months.
