The Carolina Hurricanes Hall of Fame recognizes players and contributors who have positively impacted the hockey club in such a way that their contributions cannot be overlooked.

Three-time Stanley Cup winner and Conn Smythe winner Justin Williams became the second committee-voted player inducted to the Hurricanes Hall of Fame. Williams tallied 316 points (128g, 188a) in 449 regular-season games with the Hurricanes over parts of eight seasons (2004-09, 2017-20) and added 26 points (12g, 14a) in 47 playoff contests with the team. He ranks top-10 in Hurricanes history in goals, assists, even-strength goals (84), even-strength points (208), power-play goals (38), shorthanded goals (6), shorthanded points (11) and game-winning goals (21), and 11 of his 12 playoff goals came at even strength, tied for the third-most in Hurricanes playoff history. Williams posted 18 points (7g, 11a) in 25 games during Carolina’s run to the first Stanley Cup in franchise history in 2006, finishing tied for third on the team in postseason scoring and potting the empty-net goal to cap the Hurricanes’ Cup-clinching win over the Oilers. He was later named the eighth different captain in Hurricanes history on Sept. 13, 2018, and in the following season, he led Carolina to its first Stanley Cup Playoff berth in 10 years.

Williams will be honored with a pregame ceremony on January 15 when the Canes take on the Los Angeles Kings. The first 10,000 fans at all exits will receive a Justin Williams Hurricanes Hall of Fame mini banner presented by AAA.

How It Works

Individuals nominated for the Hurricanes Hall of Fame will be broken into two categories: Players and Contributors.

Players

  • Skaters who have played at least 250 games with the Hurricanes
  • Goaltenders who have played at least 100 games with the Hurricanes
  • Any skaters or goaltenders who have won the Stanley Cup or other major NHL awards during their tenure with the Hurricanes
  • Demonstrate exceptional attributes in the areas of playing ability, sportsmanship, character and contributions to the Hurricanes
  • Must not have played in a professional or international game during the season prior to their election

Contributors

  • Non-uniform club personnel who have been employed by the Hurricanes for a minimum of 10 years and/or won the Stanley Cup or a major NHL award during their tenure with the club
  • Demonstrate exceptional attributes in coaching, managerial or executive leadership, or have proven their ability in another significant off-ice role, sportsmanship, character and contributions to the Hurricanes
  • May be active or inactive in professional or international hockey at the time of their election

How It Works

  • A maximum of one Player and one Contributor may be inducted into the Hurricanes Hall of Fame each year; however, there is no requirement that the max of either category be reached in any given election period
  • Any nominee receiving 70% of the vote, or nine votes with a 13-person Selection Committee, will receive automatic induction; if no nominee meets those criteria, a run-off ballot will be held for the two nominees receiving the most votes
  • Nominations for Players and Contributors may be submitted to the Hurricanes President and General Manager by all members of the Selection Committee from August 1 through September 1 each calendar year; each member may submit the name of one Player and one Contributor during each nomination cycle
  • A week prior the annual Selection Committee meeting in September, each member will receive the complete list of nominations for review, and at the beeting, the Committe will hold ballot elections for the Player category, followed by the Contributor category
