9.25.23 Lineups

Starting Young

  • As Rod Brind'Amour said would be the case on Monday, Carolina's roster for the exhibition opener features a good deal of younger players. The head coach referenced that that would be the case for the first few bouts, and the veterans would get into the action as the six-game schedule moves along.

Two Too Many

  • Yes, there are 12 forwards, eight defensemen, and two goalies listed on the roster above. It is expected that two of the listed defensemen will not play.

The Pairs

  • Of the players from training camp Group "C1", Dmitry Orlov and Tony DeAngelo have been paired together thus far in practice. Jalen Chatfield and Dylan Coghlan have been working side-by-side. If those players are in the lineup, it's fair to expect them to be playing with one another.

"Veteran" Rule

  • As a reminder, NHL teams must dress at least eight “veterans” in each preseason contest. “Veterans” are skaters who played 30 NHL games the previous season, goalies who dressed in 50 NHL games or played in 30 NHL games the previous year, any player who has played 100+ NHL games, or a current year first-round pick.

Past Preseasons

  • Carolina posted a 4-1-0 record in five exhibition games last season, with a preseason-opening win against Tampa Bay. Since the franchise relocated to Raleigh, the Hurricanes own a 13-7-1-1 record in preseason games against the Lightning.

Fresh Faces

  • 11 players listed on tonight's lineup card - Aston-Reese, Beaulieu, Bellows, Conacher, DeAngelo, Halbgewachs, Jones, Orlov, Perlini, Shore, and Unger Sorum - joined the Canes this summer.

Injury Updates

  • Forward Vasily Ponomarev will "miss some time" due to a knee injury suffered on the first day of training camp (9/22), per Rod Brind'Amour.

What Are We Wearing?

  • Carolina will be wearing their white uniforms for all six preseason games.
