RALEIGH, NC. - The Carolina Hurricanes activated goaltender Antti Raanta from injured reserve on Wednesday, clearing the way for a potential return.
Now healthy, the veteran had been out since February 8 when he suffered a lower-body injury during the second period of the team's win over the Colorado Avalanche.
After a tough start to the year that involved him being waived and sent down to the American Hockey League in December, Raanta bounced back before suffering his injury. 6-2-1 with a 2.09 goals against average (GAA) since the holiday break, he now gives the team another option in net as they approach a segment of 14 games in 24 days.
Both Pyotr Kochetkov (5-3-0, .938 SV%) and Spencer Martin (3-0-1, .921 SV%) have been solid since Raanta went down, and Frederik Andersen is "just around the corner" from returning as well.
Raanta returned to practice with the full group on Monday and took to the ice before the team's skate on Wednesday.
The Canes host Montreal on Thursday, the first of three games in four days. They'll take on New Jersey in Newark on Saturday afternoon, before returning home to battle the Calgary Flames on Sunday.
