The Series So Far...

  • Game 1: Jaccob Slavin came up clutch in overtime to help the Canes open up the series on the right foot.
  • Game 2: Carolina struck late but couldn't complete the comeback in a 3-1 loss at Capital One Arena.
  • Game 3: Frederik Andersen turned aside all 21 Washington shots for his fourth career playoff shutout as the Canes won 4-0.

Svech Steps Up...

  • Andrei Svechnikov tallied his sixth goal of the playoffs on Saturday, becoming the first player in franchise history to score six times in eight games to start a postseason run and tying William Nylander for the third-most goals in the playoffs.
  • With the goal, Svechnikov also picked up his 43rd career playoff point, tying Eric Staal for the second-most in franchise history. His 21 career postseason goals rank second in franchise history behind Sebastian Aho (30).

In Net...

  • Frederik Andersen picked up Carolina's first postseason shutout since 2022 in Game 3, turning aside 21 shots in his busiest game of the second round so far.
  • At the time of publishing, Andersen leads all qualifying goalies in GAA (1.55) and save percentage (.945) during the playoffs, and has allowed multiple goals just twice in seven appearances this postseason.
  • Considering that he has deployed Andersen whenever he's been available during this postseason, it seems likely that Rod Brind'Amour continues to stick with the hot hand between the pipes.

On The Other Side...

  • In Game 3, Washington was held off the scoreboard in the playoffs for the first time since 2020, despite Head Coach Spencer Carbery being pleased with his team's start on Saturday.
  • “I thought we were playing well through the first period for sure, first half of the second period," he said. "Then we lose momentum there for a stretch, and they score the face-off goal, which sort of brings the building alive. And I thought we were just okay through that. And once we get down, it’s a tough spot for us as a team. It gets off track after that, and our puck play wasn’t great.”
  • Logan Thompson wasn't at his usual best on Saturday, allowing four goals on 28 shots and recording a sub-.900 save percentage for the third time this postseason. It took more than half the game for the Canes to get to the Caps' standout netminder, but once they did, there were holes to be found - an early strike for the hosts in Game 4 could allow them to quickly build momentum on home ice.

Injury Updates

  • Forward Jesper Fast was ruled out for the 2024-25 season in August after having neck surgery.
  • Forward Mark Jankowski left Game 1 in the second period with an undisclosed injury. The forward was labeled a game-time decision for Game 2 and "doubtful" for Game 3 on Saturday morning, but did not appear in either contest. Rod Brind'Amour said on Sunday that Jankowski is "a little banged-up, still."

What Are We Wearing?

  • The Canes will wear their black uniforms at home throughout the postseason.
