LINEUP NOTES AND PETERS QUOTES
4:20 p.m.
As they have done in back-to-back situations much of this season, the Hurricanes will get some fresh bodies in the lineup this evening against Vegas: Phil Di Giuseppe draws in for Josh Jooris, Roland McKeown takes the place of Haydn Fleury and Scott Darling gets the start in net.
"Last night was a good example of us trying to get everybody into the game coming off the bye week," head coach Bill Peters said. "It's an opportunity for guys to get more ice time and expanded roles."
Here's more from the head coach.
On the power play: "Our power play has been much better recently. ... The power play is huge. There are not many nights when you win the specialty teams battle that you lose the hockey game."
On the wing pair of Brock McGinn and Justin Williams: "I like that pair for, sure. ... It looks like the chemistry they had between Skinner, Ryan and Stemper is there again. I really like our lines the way they're set up right now."
On tonight's opponent: "They've got a real good hockey team. They've got four lines deep up front that play with a lot of speed. The D is real good. Veteran D. ... Their goaltending is very steady every night and they're well coached."
On the status of Sebastian Aho (concussion, lower body): "I'm not anticipating him being back prior to that (All-Star break). That's more just with the head. If you can give guys more time, you should."
On the status of Brett Pesce (upper body): "Just not quite there. We thought the bye was going to do him good and it did, but it didn't get him close enough. He had a little pushing and shoving in Detroit and it didn't go perfect."
On his impressions of new owner Tom Dundon: "I don't think he sits back and watches. I don't have that read, do you? We talk. He wants to communicate. He's good. He's coming in tonight. He was in Charlotte to watch the Checkers, and I believe they won in overtime. Good win by them to bounce back from last night. This guy wants to get going. It's good. It's exciting. He's not bashful. He wants to communicate, and he wants solutions. I like it. I think it's going to be great."
BLUE CROSS AND BLUE SHIELD OF NORTH CAROLINA TOOLS TO VICTORY

CANES HOST WEST'S BEST
12:00 a.m.
On the heels of a 3-1 victory over the Detroit Red Wings in their first game back from the bye week, the Carolina Hurricanes host the top team in the Western Conference for the first and only time of the season.
The Vegas Golden Knights, who sit atop the Western Conference with a 30-11-4 record and 64 points, will make their first-ever stop in Raleigh to wrap up a four-game road swing, The team is currently 1-1-1 on the road trip, having last dropped a 4-3 overtime loss to the Florida Panthers on Friday.
Meanwhile, the Hurricanes rested from Monday-Friday during their league-mandated bye week. The team returned to action on Saturday night with a 3-1 win in Detroit against a team giving chase in the standings. Elias Lindholm scored two power-play goals, Justin Williams sealed the victory with a goal late in regulation and Cam Ward made 23 saves on 24 shots, as the Canes snagged a crucial two points in the Motor City.
"I thought we really got off to a good start," head coach Bill Peters said after the game. "The second period was close to the vest both ways, and I thought we really had a good push in the third. I thought we had some good looks. Timing is going to get better as we get back into the rhythm of playing. I was really proud of the effort."
Derek Ryan, who missed two games before the break with an upper-body injury, drew back into lineup in Detroit, centering Jeff Skinner and Lee Stempniak. Lindholm saw an elevated role on the top line with Teuvo Teravainen and Jordan Staal and took advantage of his role on specialty teams.
"With injury comes opportunity, and that's what we have right now," Peters said.
Brett Pesce (upper body) traveled with the team to Detroit but did not play. The Canes recalled Roland McKeown from Charlotte on Saturday, his 22nd birthday, and could opt to insert him into the lineup to get fresh legs in on the tail end of the team's ninth back-to-back set of the season.
