The Carolina Hurricanes continue their five-game homestand with a Sunday matinee faceoff against the Arizona Coyotes.
The Hurricanes snagged a point in the first game of the homestand, a wild 6-5 shootout loss to the Washington Capitals.

Losing a Lead, Grabbing a Point
Jordan Martinook scored just 47 seconds into a match up with the defending Stanley Cup champion Washington Capitals on Friday night. Sebastian Aho added a shorthanded tally in the first period before Aho and Teuvo Teravainen scored power-play goals two minutes apart in the second period to put the Canes ahead 4-1.
"He was great," head coach Rod Brind'Amour said of Aho, who tied a single-game career high with four points. "He's been good lately, and he's been driving the ship, for sure."
PROJECTED LINEUP
It took just five minutes and 42 seconds in the second period for the Capitals to erase that three-goal deficit and tie the game at four. Alex Ovechkin completed his second hat trick in as many games in the third period to put the Caps up, but a former Capital, Justin Williams, took advantage of a miscue from goaltender Braden Holtby to even the score at five and force extra hockey. A six-round shootout ended with Jakub Vrana's tally.
"It hurts. We had it, but that's one of the best teams," Aho said. "Again, again, again, we have to learn our lesson and keep working."
"The guys know they threw that away in the second with the turnovers and little things," Brind'Amour said. "We let them get back in the game."
The Canes will now look to grab two points against the lone Western Conference visitor during this five-game homestand.
The Last Meeting
A four-game road trip in early November began in Glendale, where the Hurricanes fought back to earn a point in a 4-3 overtime loss to the Coyotes. Arizona scored three goals, including one shorthanded and one on the power play, in the first period. The Canes chipped away at the three-goal deficit with a goal in the second before scoring two in a span of 40 seconds in the third period to force overtime. Michael Grabner scored in 3-on-3 to secure the extra point for the Coyotes.
The Opposition
Raleigh marks the final stop on a four-game, Eastern Conference road trip for the Coyotes. Arizona snapped a four-game losing skid with a 4-3 overtime win against the New York Rangers on Friday, with former Ranger Derek Stepan scoring the game-winning goal with 31 seconds left in the extra frame. The goal completed a dramatic comeback for the Coyotes, who trailed 3-0 in the first period and 3-1 after two. The Coyotes are 14-15-2 with 30 points in 31 games.
ADVANCE AUTO PARTS KEYS TO THE GAME

1. Rise and Shine
It's an early afternoon faceoff to finish off a stretch of three games in four days. Be ready right from the drop of the puck, and an early lead like the Canes got just 47 seconds into the game on Friday wouldn't hurt, either.
2. Power Play Prowess
The Canes' power play came up big, going 3-for-6 on Friday night. The Canes' will face the league's top-ranked penalty kill (which has also scored a league-leading 11 shorthanded goals), so the man advantage will need to be extra sharp today.
3. Finish
The Canes had a 4-1 lead in the second period on Friday and had to settle for a point. Get the lead on this Coyotes team and fend them off to secure a regulation W.
