Martinook did something never before seen during his NHL career for the Carolina Hurricanes in Game 4 of the 2023 Eastern Conference Second Round.
He had a goal and two assists in a 6-1 win against the New Jersey Devils. That gave him a Hurricanes/Hartford Whalers Stanley Cup Playoff record four consecutive multipoint games. He did not have any back-to-back multipoint games prior to how he helped Carolina to victory at Prudential Center on May 9, 2023. Martinook became the third player in NHL history with at least nine in a series after getting shut out in his team's previous series in the same postseason, joining Lanny McDonald (1984) and Craig Janney (1988).

Though Martinook didn't have a point in six games against the New York Islanders in the first round, he still made an impact, including a team-high seven shots on goal in a series-clinching 2-1 overtime win in Game 6.
"He's one of those players that a lot of times doesn't get a lot of recognition for the work he puts in," Hurricanes coach Rod Brind'Amour said.
Selected by the Arizona Coyotes in the second round (No. 58) of the 2012 NHL Draft after two seasons with Vancouver of the Western Hockey League, Martinook made his NHL debut against the Boston Bruins on Dec. 6, 2014 and scored his first NHL goal against the Pittsburgh Penguins on Oct. 10, 2015.
Martinook played three full seasons with the Coyotes and had 25 points (11 goals, 14 assists) in 2016-17. He was traded to the Hurricanes, along with a fourth-round pick (center Luke Henman) in the 2018 NHL Draft, for forward Marcus Kruger and a third-round pick in 2018 (defenseman Ty Emberson) on May 3, 2018.
He scored an NHL career high 15 goals in his first season with the Hurricanes (2018-19) and signed a two-year contract Jan. 29, 2019.
