Sidney Crosby Donates 100,000 Meals Through Greater Pittsburgh Food Bank

Pittsburgh Penguins captain Sidney Crosby donated 100,000 meals today to Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank (the Food Bank). The meals equate to 120,000 pounds of food distributed across the organization's 11-county service area in southwestern Pennsylvania.

"Sidney is such an incredible person both on and off the ice," said Lisa Scales, President & CEO of the Food Bank. "He's provided great joy to this region during his tenure with the Penguins, and now he is helping us provide food assistance to those who need it most during the COVID-19 crisis."

Penguins Players, Fox's Pizza Den Team Up to Donate Pizzas to Community

1,000 personal pizzas were distributed to five community centers in the Pittsburgh region

Pittsburgh Penguins players Teddy Blueger, Tristan Jarry, Sam Lafferty, and John Marino teamed up with Fox's Pizza Den to donate 1,000 personal pizzas to five community centers in the Pittsburgh region.

The players purchased 500 pizzas, and Fox's Pizza Den matched that number. The Fox's Pizza staff facilitated the distribution today.

Pittsburgh Penguins Foundation donates 500 backpacks with school supplies

The Pittsburgh Penguins Foundation is distributing 500 backpacks of school supplies to students in Allegheny and Somerset Counties who don't have the educational resources at home.

The backpacks include a notebook, a folder, construction paper, pencils, a pencil sharpener, crayons, markers, a pencil case, scissors, a ruler and a glue stick.

The distribution includes:

  • 200 backpacks to both the Pennsylvania State Police barracks in Allegheny and Somerset Counties, which will distribute them to local families in need.
  • 100 backpacks to ACH Clear Pathways, a Hill District organization that supports underserved families through after-school programs.

"We are all aware that students do not always have educational resources available at home while schools are closed, and this is one way we can continue to assist our community during this challenging time," said Jim Britt, executive director of the Pittsburgh Penguins Foundation.
