RALEIGH, NC - The Carolina Hurricanes of the National Hockey League today announced the details of the team's annual holiday community day, to take place today. Hurricanes players Haydn Fleury, Phil Di Giuseppe, Josh Jooris, Trevor van Riemsdyk and Jaccob Slavin will be partnered with students from Durham Nativity School to buy presents for the students and their families for the holidays.

Students will be joined by the players at the Target at North Hills at 3:50 p.m. today and will shop for holiday gifts from 4 - 5 p.m.
Durham Nativity School is a 2015 Kids 'N Community Foundation GOAL Grant recipient. They will receive $150,000 over three years to create a fifth grade for their school. In recent years, Durham Nativity School has been the recipient of the Hurricanes holiday shopping excursion. The Durham Nativity School aims to educate and empower each child to reach their full potential. Without regard to race, religion or ethnicity, they accept boys who have the ability and commitment to achieve, yet lack the resources to attend a quality, independent school. Durham Nativity School is a middle school (now starting in fifth grade with the GOAL Grant) that commits 12 years of support to their students, including high school and college advising and educational support. There is a rigorous application and interview for students to be admitted to the school - the school currently has 45 boys (15 in each grade).
As "The Heart of the Carolina Hurricanes," the Kids 'N Community Foundation strives to meet the health and educational needs of underserved populations and strengthen youth hockey in our community through programming and financial assistance to local, youth-oriented organizations. Since the establishment of the non-profit Foundation in 1997, over $14 million in cash has been awarded to non-profit organizations that focus on enhancing the lives of youth in our community. With the ongoing support of our annual special events, Hurricanes players, staff and the corporate community, the Kids 'N Community Foundation is able to fund many causes including scholarship programs, youth hockey initiatives, education and literacy efforts, health programs and the arts.
