Last Time Out...

  • The Canes were "outplayed and outmatched" in a 5-2 loss to the Caps on Friday, starting the season without a win in their first two games for the first time in nearly a decade.
  • Sebastian Aho potted the team's first goal of the season, finishing off an Andrei Svechnikov setup on the power play, and Logan Stankoven added the second, tipping home a K'Andre Miller point shot.
  • Brandon Bussi took the loss in net, allowing five goals on 27 shots.

Expecting More From Each Other...

  • Falling to Florida on Tuesday wasn't what the team hoped for to start their season, but they were neck-and-neck with them all night in a 1-0 game that went to overtime. Friday's 5-2 loss to Washington brought about a different tune from the locker room post-game.
  • Logan Stankoven used the words “lethargic” and “unacceptable.” Jordan Staal said the Canes got “outplayed and outmatched.” Rod Brind’Amour added, “We have a couple of guys who need to get their game up.”
  • Expecting to get their opposition's best on an every-night basis as the defending Stanley Cup Champions, the unit also expressed belief in the current roster.
  • "This is the team we won with. We're the best team in the world for a reason," Stankoven also said. "It's a new year, and we've got to put that behind us and in the past. Every night we're going to expect the other team's best. We have a target on our back. That's just the way it's going to be all year, and we've got to step up to the plate."

800 For Our Hype Man...

  • Forward Jordan Martinook is set to skate in his 800th NHL game this evening.
  • Acquired from the Arizona Coyotes following the 2017-18 season, "Marty" has been an integral part of the organization's turnaround. Serving as a member of the team's leadership group for the past few seasons, of his soon-to-be 800 games, this evening will be his 553rd as a member of the roster.
  • 553 games played with the organization ranks 17th-most in team history.

In Net...

  • After Brandon Bussi started in net for a second consecutive game last night, Pyotr Kochetkov is expected to get the nod this evening.
  • Kochetkov is looking to get back on track after missing most of the last year with lower-body injuries. Now healthy, he was rewarded with a two-year contract extension last week and is eager to earn his share of the responsibilities with Bussi as the new campaign begins.

On The Other Side...

  • After getting railroaded on home ice, 7-0, to start the season on Wednesday against Pittsburgh, the Flyers were more competitive in a 3-2 overtime loss to New Jersey on Thursday.
  • Tabbed as "out of sync" with the puck, head coach Rick Tocchet said that he and his staff would have to switch some of the team's practices to correct some of the mistakes.
  • When looking for positives, the team can point out defenseman Travis Sanheim, who had a goal and an assist in their most recent showing.
