The Carolina Hurricanes will begin the back half of their six-game preseason slate when they visit the Nashville Predators on Tuesday night.
The Hurricanes will take to Nashville a young contingency, not too dissimilar to the group that played (and won) in Tampa Bay a week ago. It's a roster loaded with names of players who are vying for a very limited number of roster spots with the big club. Who will stand out and earn tomorrow?
"We don't want to have any step backwards in effort and compete," head coach Rod Brind'Amour said. "We've got a lot of guys trying to impress. This game depends on their next game where it's going to be. That's what we're focusing on."

Rod Brind'Amour: "It's a great challenge"

The Predators, who have already trimmed their training camp roster to 28 players, will dress a more veteran lineup on home ice.
"I think it's a great challenge," Brind'Amour said. "It just makes us have to be that much better. I think it will put some of our younger guys in tough spots, but that's what this league's about."
Mistakes will be made by the Canes' young lineup. That's preseason. That's hockey. What happens after that is more telling.
"You don't want to tighten up and worry about a bad shift because it could lead to another bad shift," Brind'Amour said. "They're going to have those out there tonight, and we're looking to see how they respond to those. It's a game of mistakes, and how you react to that is really, really important."

Brock McGinn: "Want to do it right"

Scott Darling will start in net and is expected to play the first two periods. Darling made his preseason debut at home last Wednesday. He played just over 30 minutes and made 16 saves on 16 shots.
"We're trying to ramp up the goaltending situation and make sure they're at the top of their game by next week," Brind'Amour said.
