WASHINGTON - Driving past remnants of Friday's inauguration and Saturday's march, the Carolina Hurricanes and their dads arrived in the District of Columbia prior to midnight on Saturday for the second leg of their annual trip.

The Hurricanes were scheduled to have a practice on Sunday at noon, but the team elected to take the morning off. That allowed for the dads and sons to do some sightseeing around Washington.

With NFL conference championship Sunday on tap for the afternoon and evening, the Hurricanes hosted a team dinner for the players, staff and their dads (plus a smattering of brothers and fathers-in-law).

On Monday, the dads group will visit the Pentagon in the morning and will then do a guided bus tour of the city in the afternoon before heading to Verizon Center for the Canes' match-up with the Capitals. The players, meanwhile, will go through their usual gameday routines, which include an 11:30 a.m. morning skate at Verizon Center, a team meal at lunch and afternoon naps to follow.
