Canes Stanley Cup Championship Rings 'A Nice Hunk of Diamond'

RALEIGH, N.C. - At an elegant dinner inside Angus Barn on Sunday night, Carolina Hurricanes players and staff were presented with the long-lasting keepsake from June's Stanley Cup victory.

Crafted by Jason of Beverly Hills, the team received their championship rings, which feature nearly 900 individually set stones, including 9.80 carats of white diamonds and 1.40 carats of natural red rubies.

A special evening for a special group of individuals; they were over the moon when they finally opened their jewelry-filled boxes.

"Holy s—, it's big... pardon my French," Jordan Martinook, in his usual personality-filled self, shared. "It was more than I expected, that's for sure."

Detailed to highlight many different portions of their playoff run, a removable championship puck pendant sits inside the ring, engraved with the Stanley Cup and personalized with each player’s number.

"They did a great job. It's really special," Jordan Staal added. "It was kind of neat that no one really knew what was going to be on it. It was a big surprise, and they did a good job of concealing it. It looked incredible, and it's a nice hunk of diamond."

Unanimously agreed upon, the words "Stress Game", a phrase often blurted out by their head coach, Rod Brind'Amour, were an integral part of the design.

"It's the way we play. It's our identity," William Carrier stamped. "It's very cool that it's on there."

Another key element was "the rope." Commonly seen on the team's social media pages following a win, a physical rope is passed from player to player within the locker room, signifying their efforts in everyone pulling on a metaphorical rope in the same direction.

"There are so many (great elements)," Sean Walker reviewed. "All of the little stats, like the goals we scored, or the specific diamonds from the wins, and the rope wrapping all around it. It's great. The rope was our thing all year. It was clear that a lot of thought, time, and effort went into it, and we're really happy with how it turned out."

Even finding a way to include Stormy, the team's lovable mascot, no stone was left unturned as the team spent the past few months constructing the "rock".

"The players definitely had feedback and input. The rope and stress game were things that they were passionate about," Canes Senior Vice President of Strategy, Chris Greenley, who spearheaded the project from the business side, added for context. "But they also wanted to keep it simple and not be too cute. I think that was good advice from them."

"Our team, we play a certain way, but we are a very simple group. We don't try to overcomplicate things. Do your job. Come to the rink and work hard every day," Greenley continued. "So, the ring is simple. It's not overly complicated."

Although he is eager to turn the page and has his attention focused on the Florida Panthers and opening night, Brind'Amour managed to crack a smile when asked for his take on the product.

"They just keep getting better, he said with appreciation. " It was a nice touch to cap (the Stanley Cup season) off."
